Hey guys,

I'll be setting up a nice new TFT after xmas and was wondering what scaling method you guys suggest for non-native resolutions.

thanks.

I would not suggest any other resolution than non native.

Atm i'm still debating about what TFT i'm gonna buy but
I'm most certain it'll be a 1280 x 1024 19" monitor which
can at least do 75hz.

I mean, if your videocard can't pull decent framerates at
a TFT's native resolution, then that's indeed a problem.

To be honest, I have a 17" LCD with a native res of 1280x1024. I've never had a problem playing games at 1024x768. The non-native res issue is way overblown, like GF6/7 AF shimmering and ATI OpenGL issues.

Yeah ok, but it IS a blurrier image due to scaling or maybe you've always had it on d-sub instead of dvi ?

umm, I have already tested 1024x768 and it looks very good - but I do have a very expensive TFT.

Was just wondering what others do/think.

I don't really have a problem with 1024x768 on my monitor, although of course I run 1280x1024 because the higher resolution is nice. On my old laptop running non-native resolutions was awful, but it seems like the newer flat panels do a pretty good job of scaling so lower res is acceptable if necessary (at least to me). Unfortunately my poor old 6600 GT can't handle Quake 4 at native resolution, so it is necessary for me.(xmasmile)

Down scaling on the Dell FPWs don't really seem to an issue, I have a 2005FPW, imo games don't look any worse at lower than native wide screen resolutions.

I keep changing my mind but lately I've been using the centered option so there isn't any scaling going on. The other one I keep using a lot is fixed aspect ratio scaling. The regular scaling options stretch things too much for my tastes with the Dell 24" LCD. With my other LCD, that uses 1280x1024, I let it scale to fill the entire screen.

I agree with you because I play Fear at that res and don't see nothing wrong.
