That is a surprise. I would have guessed that Renault would throw the keys to the factory at Fred to keep him long-term to set up a follow to the Spoonface dynasty.

So which one is gone from McLaren in 07? Kimi gone to Ferrari, or JPM gone to Minardi? oops...LOL ;)

my money is on Kimi going to Ferrari after Heidfeld's one year is up.

Massa is at Ferrari. methinks Kimi will go there, or maybe even to Renault if they are still competitive. the best thing about Alonso leaving Renault is that he didn't tell Flabio that he was negotiating with McLaren: http://www.tsn.ca/auto_racing/news_story.asp?id=147646

Disgusting. As if F1 being ruled by useless assholes who think the sport is like a game of chess (!) and the best way to lower the costs is to change the rules every two years (!!) is not enough, now we have backstabbing bosses that only care about playing psychological games with other teams and arrogant, greedy drivers who, given a chance will stuck their nose up in the sky and try and measure their dicks against the others with big money deals. Pity really, for i thought Alonso was a quiet, down to earth driver. Looks like the championship made him one hell of a money hooker and it took him no time to cash it with a fat money deal. Same league as Montoya and Button me thinks. Of course Alonso has said he wanted a fresh start, a new challenge.

http://www.f1racing.net/en/news.php?newsID=105806

"fresh challenge" my ass. Does anyone else remembers a certain block who once took a double championship with a Benetton (one year with Ford and the next with, gulp Renault engines) only to change teams for a "fresh challenge" too and also (minor detail here) an astronomical sum of money paid by Fiat (no wonder they're almost bankrupt), Asprey, Shell, Marlboro etc? I think, Vodafone money really sang to Alonso's pocket a tune he couldn't resist.

Since i mentioned one similar story, i'm going to write a second one: Anyone remembers those miserable McLaren ****s announcing a deal with Juan Pablo Montoya more than a year before it was in actual effect and while he was still driving for another team? Not that the driver who signs is innocent on such occasions, but the real reason such an early announcement found its way to the press was one: to create tension to the rival team which almost certainly would have an effect in their next (and final) year with their driver. Exactly the same thing happened here and, why am i not surprised, by the same team. It just shows that there are few gentlemen in the paddock and they sure as hell don't work in a certain Woking factory. They are filthy that's all i can say.

Everyone talks about a shock, a major coup, a masterstroke by Dennis and all that but it was easily forgotten that this team lost its biggest asset it had in the past few years: Adrian Newey. I fail to see how changing a driver in the team will compensate for losing AN, or fix the appalling reliability. But hey in all fairness, at least Mercedes is consistent(ly ****) as always. The Vodafone deal is surely great for McLaren (although Jean Todt might have a few "french" to say about that) but you don't win with a big sponsor only, you win with an all-rounder of a team that has at its core a competent technical team and the head of that team now works for RBR. This just reinforces the belief that Alonso signed purely for...sporting reasons, fresh challenges, fresh yogurts etc

On the other hand now, i'm glad for Renault. In a way it serves them right because, although understandably every team will always defend and praise its drivers, they really broke our ****ing balls with their Alonso licking (just like McLaren did with Raikkonen, or the football press does with Ronaldinho for example if we switch to football for a second). You'd see Briatore on the street, say sth like "Hey Flav, how's it going?" only to hear sth like "Fernando this, Fernando that, Fernando the best, Fernando, Fernando, Fernando, hey man how are you?" Of course, if they take the championship and McLaren are left with big-ass announcements, **** them but...

If Briatore didn't play a part in the deal as its rumoured, then Alonso should be on the lookout for a new manager. If he did, he won't just be let off by Renault, he will get the **** out of there. What sort of treatment will the "excited" Alonso get from Renault in '06 though remains to be seen. How much will he test for them? Fisichella for the championship? What about the Raikkonen/Montoya duo? Raikkonen surely must be feeling a bit betrayed by Dennis. For him to go to Ferrari as rumours say, M Schumacher needs to retire first. If Michael stays, forget about KR joining him. See, he too is a big persona now and like others, he can't (aka he is afraid to) go to another team with a competitive driver, he needs his own team with a good no.2, preferably of his choice or a team owner/manager that is firmly behind him.

On the positives now, the announcement of Alonso's deal has rubbished reports that Schumacher will follow Vodafone to McLaren (unless he's allowed to take Massa or Barichello with him and make Alonso a reserve (xmastong) ) At least they seem to still want him:

What about Montoya? He has shown that he can be a so-so servant at McLaren but is he content with that? Boy, would i love to see him go back (correction: crawl back) to Williams after he's out of a competitive drive in ’07 (not that a Williams is THE competitive drive atm mind you):

-(Montoya) Frank, hey Frank? How about a deal man? Cheap too, i promise ;)
-(Williams) Dunno mofo, i've promised it to Karthikeyan basically, plus i need a...fresh challenge ;) :naughty:
