View Full Version : G71 soon? NV50 mid 2006
http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20051219A2007.html
Nvidia is currently in volume production of its 90nm GPU series, the G71, G72 and G73, with the G71 to target the high-end market, the G72 the mid-range segment, and the G73 aimed at the entry-level, the sources said. Nvidia also plans to introduce its next flagship chip, the NV50, in the middle of next year, according to the sources.
Hmm i wonder why they're calling it the nv50 and not the g80, oh well, good stuff though.

nv50 has never been cancelled but was just delayed
thats what i have always thought..
lot of years ago nVidia president told about nv50 like the best ever thing he would have ever seen, damn they could not have deleted such a thing! ehe
and in fact, G70 and G71 should really be called NV47 and derivative

So, if we're seeing the NV50 next year, what exactly is the G80?

So, if we're seeing the NV50 next year, what exactly is the G80?its nvidia's clever way of screwing with ATI...
G80 is a x86 CPU+GPU in one die!!!!! ...erm yeah...

RD580 to launch with R580 (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=28366)
I expect that Nvidia will do the same. It should have its G71 chips up and running and its preparing for early February launch and availability. µ
I hope, cause, GTX512 is impossible to buy in Germany.

2006 will be an amazing year indeed, new GPU (NV50/R620) and CPU (Conroe, etc) architectures, Windows Vista/DX10, Blu-Ray outside Japan, PS3, etc.
I wonder how's R620 development going, ATI has just begun it's SM3 line, with so much effort put to R520/580 it seems they have little time to finish it's SM4 GPU, I guess they have a team focusing solely on the SM4 gpu for a long time now though.
I hope, cause, GTX512 is impossible to buy in Germany.
I guess there was just one wave (a small one) of GTX512 cards and maybe there'll be no more. Maybe in Germany the early buyers already emptied the stock, here in my country they've just arrived this week for the hefty price of €720, the cheapest one.

couldnt agree less, if ms gets rid of opengl it will hurt a lot of companies just because ms wants to monopolize the gaming market like they did the os market... Vista sounded good at first but ms keep getting rid of promised fetures and now its just the same old crap without opengl and a new look... I also heard some other stuff that they copied like with running 3d apps in another layer, and transparancy (which ive had sense 2001 with linux) WOW YOU PAINTED THE BAR GREY 200$ YAY!#!@$ no thx linux/unix/mac forever <3

Yeah, same here. I'm still excited about the new hardware but OS releases only come around every few years. So, I guess I'm probably a little more excited about Vista. I hope they release a preview version.

Hype is the right word. So far that's all we really know about Vista. They haven't even released a feature complete preview yet, and from what I've heard nothing anyone's seen so far is that impressive (granted, I get most of my news from open source sites so they're biased). Whenever we see it available then I'll make up my mind about whether it's worth getting excited about.

FWIW - a lot of the features Mac users tout aren't anything overly impressive to me either. Things like Expose' - neat, sure, but not exactly something that is really revolutionary like the advent of the GUI. Now that was impressive. ;)

Noone is going to like it except perhaps quite a few developers out there. You know, the ones that are getting a little sick and tired of people constantly stealing from them.

Yep, prolly i wont upgrade to Vista till some good SM4 game.
All Nvidia needs to change:
1. Add an AA setting better than 4x, but with less perf. hit then 8xS
2. Tweaked AF algorithm (remove/decrease shimmering in Q mode, angle independent AF[im greedy])
3. More hardware accelerating for SLI AA
4. And make your god damn pure video free

I really hope this is true, I'm planning on upgrading various PC parts over the summer and new vid cards would be the perfect thing to wait for.

Uhm.. no?
I've tried several new games that gave me a minimum of 10fps at times with 1600x1200 or higher. Using 16xAF, 4xAA or higher, transparency antialiasing and other stuff. I have 7800GT's Sli'd. I'd love to have 4 times my performance. Believe me, I could run any of todays gaming system to their knees. No problem.

perfect
i'll ad also 2 other things
1 put a simplu driver clean uninstaller in the FW
2 modify the SLI aa coz the ATI super AA has 4 times that performance
