While the comp is running? googled it and couldn't find anything usefull...

Just wondering if it would short something - I'm thinking it wouldn't but well, better safe then sorry.

Ummm, if they are fans on you motherboard then I would never unplug them while the PC is running. I'd also becareful with those plugged into molex connections. For ones plugged into fan controllers or into external plugs (my front fan has an external plug) I don't see this as a huge problem. Still if anything shorts you'd be in alot of trouble.

I've unplugged my front fan while the PC is running to clean the filter and fan itself and have no problems.

Those plugged into the mobo, yeah it's fine (unless it's the fan cooling your CPU in which case it's safe for ... I dunno about 60 seconds or so). Those plugged into Molexes you do risk upsetting anything else plugged in on the same train, ie. hard drives, but with a decent modern PSU it should be OK. You won't short anything, but you might send spikes up the train.
