Catalyst 5.11 drivers were the last to be bundled with the old control panel. At least with 5.11, there was an option between the old control panel and the new CATALYST .net control panel. We are up to version 5.12 and 5.13 and you are now forced to use the new .net Control Panel, the old control is now not an option anymore. By signing this petition you are telling ATi you might be boycotting future purchases of ATi hardware.

If it's possible, spread the word.

To: ATi

It's time to boycott purchases of ATi products until the old control panel is brought back. We want the option of the old control panel back.

I am an outraged customer of a Sapphire ATI Radeon 9500 Pro. The last set of drivers to support the old (good) control panel has disappeared in Catalyst drivers 5.12 and 5.13 and you are forced to use the CATALYST .net Control Panel. Bring back the old control panel

The new Catalyst Control Center, is

1. Slow

2. Memory hogging

3. Unresponsive

4. Crash prone

5. Requires the Microsoft .net Framework which is a 23.1MB download from microsoft

6. Takes longer to download than the old control panel.

7. Loads unneccary processes to your system (CLI.exe) which can't be disabled anywhere in the new Control Panel, no for reason at all CLI.exe is loaded twice.

8. Killing CLI.exe process, the new Control Panel does not load at all, no error message or anything.

9. CLI.exe required by the new Control Panel, This increases boot time, and memory usage while it is not in use.

Signing this petition is telling ATi to cut the crap and give us the old control panel back.

I was considering upgrading my graphics card, and ATi has forced my hand to go to Nvidia unless of course the old control back comes back.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

If your only an owner of a 9500pro, your the least of ATIs worries. As for your petition, Its useless and wont work. Its extremly rare for companies to bother with them.

Yea it probably won't work, but trying never hurt. With that being said, I also hate the new control panel. I am using it on a 9600XT here, and its slow, unresponsive, and seems like its geared towards noobies who don't know what AA and AF are. I want something simple, it takes way too long just to change the AA level.

3D party drivers tend to have classic control panel.

You can change AA/AF, or accessing gameprofiles, with a rightmouseclick in the taskbar, you don't have to open the CCC persé.

If this changes anything, kudos to you guys. CCC was one of the big reasons I jumped big red.

Hmm. I wonder why you can't use a 2 month-old (CP type) driver with your 9500. Playing the latest games with that? I never installed CCC myself, why don't U try ATT instead? Or the omegadrivers? There are always alternatives.

Hopefully this helps...it would be great if they'd offer the regular CP as well like they have been doing.

3D party drivers tend to have classic control panel.
Do they support the X1800s with the classic control panel? If so, maybe I'll give some of those a shot.

I would consider signing cept for the retarded last part.

Why threaten moving to a different card when signing a petition?

Why not just do it and get it over with?

First off, you can use the classic CP with 5.12, 5.13, and future driver releases. However, you have to downlaod it seperate (it's still avaiable on ATI's site, and they said it will be as long as they host lagacy drivers).

IMO, CCC was a small part in my decision to get a 7800GT over an X1800XL. While the old CP is adequate for my 9800XT (which has very few features that the CCC is required for), you just cannot run the R5x00 series with the old CP and be totally happy with it.

I tried that and it didn't work. I installed 5.13 driver only and then attempted to install 5.12's control panel. The setup program simply quit and no error or anything showed up. If I went into the event viewer there was a flagged event in there indicating the installation of the older control panel was refused due to a version mismatch. 5.12's control panel will not install in an environment where the 5.13 display driver is already there.

Yeah, that doesn't work with the X1800s, only the older cards. With the 5.12s, I got it to install but when trying to bring it up, nothing happened. That's why I was curious about the modified drivers. If they've got that working, it might be worth a shot (although I don't think I've ever tried any modified drivers so I'm a little leery of them).

OWA - I've used OMEGA's modified drivers, and they are certainly quality. You could use them exclusively and have no issues.

Okay, thanks for the info Medion.
