I come into a little extra cash so I'm going to do a little upgrade.
Going to go AMD this round not intel. It's only going to cost me
about 80 more bucks to go AMD X2 and not P820D.

AMD 64 3800X2
ASRock 939Dual-SATA2
and pickup a fast harddrive for my os to run on.

The ASrock will run the X2 at 2.3 to 2.4 no problem.
It's not the best overclocker but should be fine with modded bios.
I get to keep running a 6800ultra agp card so that's all good. :)
My ram will get to stay to. :D

What harddrive should I go with? I'm on a smaller budget here. ;)

A friend of mine picked up one of those boards (heh, my recommendation) and he loves it, nice choice :)

 I know I know... I still like Intel though. "lol" ;)

Intel needs to get with the game.
I hope by my next upgrade Intel is back at least = to AMD.

I wish I had the funds for a Raptor. :(
I guess the Seagate will have to do this upgrade. I'm already spending
more than I planned now. ;)

I can vouch for the seagate drives as well. My 200gig 7200.8 is fantastic. Great load times, almost completely silent... on top of that a 5 year warranty (plus its seagate which means Ill probably never need the warranty anyway)... cant go wrong :)

I just hope it's as fast as I think it will be. "my rig"

The OCed X2 running 4800+ speeds should beat the
dog crap out of my cpu performance now.
It should push my 6800u pretty well. :D

I'm also going to upgrade to Win XP64.

Just out of curiousity ;

What would have been your upgrade if you had chosen to go Intel again ? And what would be the reason for it ?

I agree. I just bought it from NewEgg for $112 after rebate (which I think is expired now).

I got rid of a 10k 36gb Raptor and two Seagate 7200.8 250gbs in RAID"0" for one WD 250gb SE16....this drive is amazing, I seriously can not tell the difference(except for the fact that I can't hear the SE16 ;) ) in Windows or games. I even have it partitioned 40/210..

AFAIK, these boards don't offer hardly any voltage adjustments for the x2s and I haven't heard of any modified BIOS to up the voltage. Then again, my 3800 does 2.4 at default voltage. GL!

I was thinking about a Pent-D 830 overclocked.

Hmmm if you looking for exactly $300 or less, I found all US retailers sell it at $315 and upwards. It very hard to find the cheapest OEM price in US, so I found ebay got the cheapest either $300 (http://cgi.ebay.com/AMD-Athlon-64-X2-Dual-Core-3800-Processor_W0QQitemZ6834997457QQcategoryZ80139QQrdZ 1QQcmdZViewItem) and $295 (http://cgi.ebay.com/AMD-ATHLON-64-X2-DUAL-CORE-3800-NEW-RETAIL-SOCKET-939_W0QQitemZ6835403028QQcategoryZ3672QQrdZ1QQcmdZ ViewItem). How that? :D
