I was going to get a 3800+ X2 but it seems I
can get a Opteron 165 and save $.

What should I get?
The Opt has dual core with 1meg cache.
The X2 only has 512's.

Anyone know what is better?
Does the opt overclock better?
How about performance? Is the extra cache worth a 200mhz slower cpu?

Also.... I know the Opt is a E6 stepping.
With the X2 it's pot luck. It could be an E4 or E6.
Is the E6 better? I'm kinda out of the loop on AMD these days..

Thanx,
B

I think a few X2's also have 1MB L2 cache depending on which one you get...

X2s only have 1mb cache(s) in the 4400+ and 4800+ CPUs
Anyway, I went with an Opti because I found a 175 OEM(equal to the specs. of a 4400+ 2.2ghz, 2x1mb cache) for much less than the price of the X2 4400+,
I'm happy with it and since I do mostly gaming I like that I have the full 1mb caches. ...and the 2.42ghz, I run at, is nowhere near what this CPu is capable of hitting, but its all I neeed atm :)

I'd say go with the Opteron 165, since they both overclock almost the same and the extra 512kb of cache won't hurt! And you'll save money buying a better cpu which is quite remarkable... The opterons go trough if I understood this correctly a much tighter quality checkup than the regular X2s.

Thanx guys. I'm going with the 165 opt. :)
Since I'm overclocking the extra 200mhz of the X2 is a none worry. ;)
