Looks like there are no more aperature grill monitors available, trinitrons and diamondtron are no longer made. Is there a shadowmask CRT that will be as sharp as my diamondtron? I don't think LCDs have the colors of a CRT, but I could be wrong. Whats the best way to go for image quality in games these days?

Funny that you mention this because I just purchased a Sony GDM-FW900 from here:

It may not be brand new but it's a Grade A refurb. This is as close as one will get this baby brand new.

Here are some pictures I've stumbled upon of the Sony GDM-FW900:

Hey|MaguS| how ya doin' good buddy? :p

lol. Anyways, as I have stated in my previous reply those pics I merely stumbled upon. I have not as of yet received my GDM-FW900.

About connecting the 360 to it. There are many ways one could do this.

Solution #1: The simplest of solutions would be to buy the official 360 VGA adapter and connect the 360 directly to the monitor's D-Sub VGA input.

Solution #2: If the monitor's D-Sub VGA input is currently being used by the PC one could buy a VGA to BNC adapter (link: http://www.cablesnmor.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=614) and connect the VGA to BNC adapter to the VGA end of the 360 VGA cable and hook the 360 up through the BNC inputs.

Solution #3: Buy the Vdigi VD-Z3 VGA transcoder (link: http://www.vdigi.com/index.php?option=content&task=blogsection&id=4&Itemid=27) and hook the 360's component cable directly to the transcoder and then hook up the transcoder to the PC's D-Sub VGA input.

Solution #4: Buy the Vdigi VD-Z3 VGA transcoder and the VGA to BNC adapter and connect the 360's component cables to the transcoder then the transcoder to the monitor's BNC cables.

Solution #5: Buy the VGA to BNC adapter and connect the PC's VGA cable to the monitor's BNC inputs. The 360 could then be connected to the monitor's D-Sub VGA input.

Oh and final exams are on Monday. :D

Doesn't Sony still make the GDM-C520K, the Holy Grail of CRT monitors?

I was always under the impression that the Sony GDM-FW900 is the Holy Grail of PC CRT monitors. This is precisely why I bought it.

I already knew about the deals on Ebay. I also already knew about the Hardforum thread about the monitor. The thing is, I wanted the Sony brand FW900 and not the HP one. Not to mention that the place I bought it from has perfect ratings on ResellerRatings.com. It was worth the premium price to me easily.

The HP A7217a -is- the Sony GDM-FW900 re-branded. I like the exterior color of the sony branded one better, but that's the only difference.

I'm still amazed at this monitor. It is awesome. True color, pure blacks and whites, no backlight annoyance, no native resolution hassle. Mmmmm, 24 inches of widescreen goodness at a fraction of the cost of "a certain dell monitor" that I thought about getting.

I've not felt so good about an upgrade in quite a while.

IMO, for immersive gaming you have to go widescreen.. Gaming on those squarish little monitors just feels really strange now and much less gratifying.

I would also suggest that you look for a -really- comfortable chair. Heh.

EDIT: http://www.azatek.com/details.asp?iid=786 for the $479 refurbished sony oem
and: http://www.accurateit.com/details.asp?iid=203 for the same $999 refurbished monitor with the sony color scheme. :) Could check EBAY too of course or pricewatch, but make sure you get one that's refurbished to factory specs. They stopped making them in 2003 I think.
