What type of cooling does everyone use in thier rig? Cpu fans, add on fans, heatsinks, etc. How loud does it get? Do you overclock? If so how well does it work with your cooling?

I use 2x 80mm fans. One on the front bezel and one on the rear. My Cpu fan is the bigest chunk of copper I've ever seen. Generic brand. Fan runs at around 5000 rpms. Loud as a sweeper. I also have passive heatsinks on my ram. Stock cooling on my vidcard. All in all my rig stays pretty cool but it's noisey. I just shut the door on my desk and that cancels most of the noise.

I have an SLK-800 with an 80mm Vantec Tornado
2 80mm Vantecs for cooling..This thing is so loud you cant hear for days..

Im changing my case fans and keeping the Vantec on the CPU since Im getting 35C on full load right about now..:afro:

I've got a SAK 38 hsf on my cpu. 2 92mm intake fans (panaflo), 1 80 mm exhaust fan on the back of the case (panaflo) and a 92 mm exhaust fan on the side panel (sprofan or some crap like that). It's pretty loud when everything is on, so I rarely have the case fans on anymore. I've also got a chrome orb on my video car (kyro 2), running at 7 volts, the whine it makes at 12 is quite annoying.

The delta fan that came with the sak38 is deafening, even at 7 volts. I've replaced it with a YS Tech 60mm running at 7 volts which is nice and quiet.

I'm running a tualatin celeron 1.3 @ 1612mhz, in a modded CUBX. It's quite nice, having all the fans on doesn't help me get any higher, so at this point they are almost decoration.

There was a time when I didn't mind noise for the sake of speed, but now I've got to have a quiet pc.

Well here's my case. Three 120MM fans, no OC, stock HSF, sweet PSU. I also have a 40x40x40 fan setup in the 5 1/4 bay blowing in. Not loud at all believe it or not.

Idle around 35C

In my comp, an amd xp 2400+ (t-bred) i have the following:

a Volcano 9 +coolmod for the cpu, Its big (80x80mm) but does a good job, not too loud either if you dont run it at full speed, Ive set mine to around 4000 rpm and the cpu temp is around 33-34c

Then I have an extra fan in the front of the case, a normal 80x80mm, very quiet.

and also an extra fan in the back to suck out some hot air.
And ofcours the PSU fan.
In my case there are space for two fans at the back and two at the front. I might add two more fans some day if I decide to OC.

Heres a closeup of the Volcano 9 and the extra fan in the back

http://home.bip.net/snoddas_78/sig/volcano9.jpg

The case I use is a Nobless Mirror (http://www.colorcase.com/nobmircas.html#)

The blue mirror in the front isnt as light blue as the picture from the site, its alot darker. Looks cool tho. One can remove it and instead use a frame instead of the "door" with the mirror on.

EDIT: Forgot to mention the little fan on the mobo chipset. So thats one more ...

A possitive air pressure in the case is important. (meaning more air comes in then out). If you have a negative air pressure dust will easier collect inside the case... Also the Hot air will stay inside the case.

2x80mm case fans, one on top one on back, using some HSF from Titian, and I have a BlueOrb© on my GF3.

Addtronics 6896A Case. I have had this case for almost a couple of years now. You guys that don't know about this case should check it out. One of the best cases around, bar none! Pictures on the Addtronics site don't even begin to do this case justice (the case is much wider and hefty looking than the pictures portrait). The case has room for 3 more fans, 1 on each side of the case towards front, and another fan positioned right in front of the cpu but I'm not using those. I just don't need them with my setup.

Dual intake fans in front, 120mm and 80mm.
Rear exhaust fan 90mm.
Antec double fan 430 watt PS

ThermalRight SLK 800 cpu heatsink with variable speed Thermaltake 80mm Smart Fan 2. I have to comment on this one. I just put it in yesterday. I currently have the fan running at 2700 rpm (it maxes out at 4800 rpm). The temps are blowing me away, running 10-15 degrees F cooler than my previous Taisol with 60mm fan running at 5800 rpm. At 2700 rpm I can't even hear it with case covers on. At 4800 rpm I can definitely hear it but with the temps I'm getting at 2700 rpm, I don't need to run the fan any faster. I have the speed controller hanging out the back of the case so I can adjust it at will. I wish Thermaltake would have provided some instructions and a kit for drilling a hole and keeping the controller in place. The wire is too short to come out the front of the case. I just can't stress how blown away I am with this cpu heatsink/fan combo I have now. I just can't see how it can be beat.

The case has an easy removable front cover with nice big air filter. No stupid front door that I find rather useless. Floppy A drive is mounted at very top of case which is an Addtronics trademark. Everything in this case is set up for the tweaker, removable mb tray and all (which I can't do without) and the case just looks incredibly cool when it's all set up and running.

Oh btw, have I mentioned I really like this case?

Watercooling here. Have a block for my RAID array (two 80's), for the mobo, and for the processor. Temps are cool, but I have it so I can overclock. Not sure how far I can go yet. Using that new GA-8INXP mobo. Will find out soon. :D

Antec 1080AMG
3x Antec 2600rpm 80mm intake fans.
2x Evercool 2000rpm 80mm out take fans.
Volcano 7+ @ 3000rpms (AThlon XP2100+)
48C or 38C
@ 5000rpms
44C or 34C

I would say it's really 38C as after i updated my BIOS from anything above 1004, it added added 10C to the temp of my Duron while the HSF was barely warm. Funnything is my Duron 800@1GHz runs as hot as my Athlon XP2100+.

I havn't tried any real overclocking as i can't be bothered to remove half of my cards just to get to the CPU voltage jumper :o
With defualt voltage i can get it to post @ 1911MHz but won't boot (147MHz FSB)

Hey Fastguy. Loud as a mofo? You must have all them extra fans running that I mentioned (and maybe one of those airplane motor fans on your cpu?). Mine is not too loud. I can definitely hear it but it's a nice air noise, no high pitches.

I actually tried to use those extra 2 fans on the side of the case and the 1 in front of the CPU. It definitely made it louder but I noticed no cooler temps. Those two fans in front (120 & 80) and the big 90mm exhaust (not counting the PS exhaust) do the trick. Air doesn't hang around long in the case, it's in and out quick.

Dam, if you want the 7986A Addtronics (what, like 7 bays?), you must have a lot of stuff. That thing is HUGE, even the 6896A is big.

I want the 7896A, but don't have it :(

As to the loud as Mofo, I have 3 86 cfm 80mm fans and a 120cfm 120mm fan. Not to mention the 60mm delta 38 on the cpu

Did you change some fans (I don't think the stock fans are spinning that fast, your Delta is probably responsible for the most noise)?

I have the 120 and 90 I got with the case, I had the 80. I don't know what the cfm on the front 120 and 80 is. The rear one is a 90mm (I don't know the cfm on that one either).

I'm not one of those "swamp buggy" fan guys. I like efficient cooling with low noise. My ears and temp reading determine the balance I'm after. With some experimenting I have it down pretty good right now. Low noise and good cooling.

Right now my temps are:

CPU - 86F
MB - 66F

Of course my room right now is kinda cold, around 68F.

2 80mm exhaust fans in the back of the case.
0 (yep ZERO) intake fans.
1 cut via Dremel tool in the plastic mold on the front of the case.
1 Downy dryer sheet serving as a filter over that slit.

And this monstrosity for a CPU cooler that I'm worshipping in this picture - the original Speeze SuperRock. :p

My AMD XP 1700+ hovers around 47c idle / 51c gaming. :afro:

Yeah, this is the only part of my system that I love to brag about.

Athlon 2100+ cooled by a Zalman Cu6000 in silent mode, GF4 Ti4200 silenced by a Zalman HP-80, Enermax 350W Whisper PSU, Seagate Baracuda 120GB ATA V, Samsung 32x CDRW/DVD (I've listed all components that generate noise), no other fans.

Temps are 33/35C

Quieter than a Playstation2.

I love it!

i got 4 antec blue led's... 2 intakes, 2 outakes. a coolermaster copper heatsink... it only has a cheesy 60mm fan... might upgrade that to another 80mm blue led... and an enermax 430 watt psu with 2 fans..

my case cooling includes a canadian winter with an open side case positioned by a balcony window that isn't insulated worth a fart.

Athlon 1.2 idle 30C-45C (depends on the temperature outside)

Laters,

Nedz

PS - no joke... when it was -42C (-43F) outside, it was probably lower than that, but i never checked :P
