I am play testing an X1800XL but normally use a 7800GT.

In Splinter Cell Chaos Theory I don't remember this visual anomoly on my 7800GT.

This is in the first part of the first mission of the game near some barrels at the base of the stairs.

Look at the shadows cast by the bars onto the light brown crate behind them. They are horribly banded. And when in motion they wriggle and the bands swish around. This is not everywhere but mainly on vertical surfaces.

This is in both SM 2.0 and 3.0 mode. Soft Shadows on... Obviously in SM 1.1 (original mode of the game) this does not happen.

I don't have the 7800GT installed ATM can someone who plays this game on a 6800/7800 product check this for me and say wether they see this as well? Please check the same location. :)

Thanks.

I recall the same on my 7800 .. its from the graphics renderer itself , not a driver or hardware specific issue.

prolly the resolution on the shadowmap.

Only if looks the same without soft shadows. It's more likely a bug in the pixel shader that renders the "softness effect".
