Quick question

I'm looking into buying the BFG Tech Geforce 7800 GT OC, but i've been hearing rumours that Windows Media Center does not support it? I bought the computer last week (Gateway GTX7022e, 3.0 pentium D, 2 gig ram, 320 gig HD, geforce 6200 graphics card). This is going to replace the crap 6200 that comes in the system.

Are these rumours true? Its media center version 2002.

It's a load of tosh!

You can get 81.98s for MCE that fully support the 7800 in all variants.

Or even better still .... here .... http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxpmce_81.98.html

Oh wait a minute, you said MCE 2002? ...is there such a thing?

Now i'm not so sure.

EDIT: Not to worry, having Googled it , seems other people run the same kind of setup without problems.

If you only bought the system last week, it's going to have MCE 2005. My computer is an HP that I bought months ago and it had the same OS (though I replaced it with standard XP Professional). Follow the link Peoples-Agent posted to NVIDIA's site and download those drivers. You'll be fine.

Sounds good, I'll be going out to buy this today. Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate it!

When I go under properties under my computer, it says Windows Xp, Media Center Edition, Version 2002

Kinda strange since I never heard of it either.

Also on Nvidia's website it doesn't list the 7 series as being certified for MCE...oh well I'll give it a shot, if I have any problems they said I could return it.

For some reason, the system properties page displays MCE 2005 as 2002. If you go into the Media Center app itself, click on Settings-->General-->About Media Center-->Software Version it will display the correct version you're running.
