Switched from ATI X800XT to Nvidia 6800 GT because of crappy Quake 4 performance.... man am I happy I did. Although some benchmarks show the X800XT faster in Quake 4, the real world does not agree. When you start the game and go into the the first room with windows, right before that monster blasts through the pipes and you get your first objective.... well, my ATI card would get max 29FPS in a certain spot (entry to window room, looking up from hallway) with 2XAA and HQ at 1024x768... and it would be real choppy in the room. The constant jumps from 60FPS to under 30FPS were driving me nuts. Well, now with the 6800 GT, the exact same spot is 47 - 49 FPS, and the window room is smooth as silk. The game runs smoother, and I'm a real happy camper. I will only miss Truform in Morrowind! And I will certainly NOT miss the slow and bloated Catalyst Control Center!

Enjoy... Nvidia makes kickass cards and there drivers
are second to none.

Quake 4 performance is great with this card, even at 1280 x 1024 @ HQ. (AMD 64 3700+ San Diego, 4x512 ram)

Doom3 / Quake4 was written for the Nv cards. The X800 would be better in anything D3d especially when AA is enabled. If you only play one game, Q4, then congratz otherwise Im not sure I'd be all that happy. (nana2)

Actually, Nvidia designed it's cards with Doom3 in mind.

I don't know about that.... my 3DMark05 did go down 10%, but 3DMark03 went UP 5%. I am still getting an insane 120FPS in UT2004 with 4xAA and 8xAF in the rez I use.

It's an OpenGL game, so of course an nVidia card is going to perform better than a comparable ATi card.

A situation which was/is slated to be improved with the R5** series.

The X1800XT is faster than a 7800 GTX 256 with AA / AF enabled now.
ATI has always excelled when aa/af is enabled. The X1800XT series is the same, check the newer reviews with updated Catalysts. The X1800XT rocks with eye candy on. I use an LCD so my preferred res is 1280x1024 with 6x/8x on. The X1800XT does 6x at less performance hit than 4x and looks just flat out amazing!!

my 6600GT probobly can beat a x800XT in quake4 cause ati cant write drivers for ****...
Yeah well Microsoft are going to kill off OpenGL in Vesia.
a rather interesting Microsoft document that recommends to people who want to show off Vista to use ATI over Nvidia. It says that: "ATI is preferred to Nvidia at this time due to superior driver support".
@Dazz: Where did you find that quote from?
Last thing I heard about OpenGL's "limited functionality" in Vista was that it only affected programs running in windowed mode (such as many 3D drafting applications), defaulting to the 1.4(?) revision or something similar...

It's from the Inquirer (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=28825), so take it for what it's worth. And that article says nothing about OpenGL support in Vista at all, so it's a moot point.

You would like that, wouldn't you? :)
No, the x800xt is better than that.
The Doom3 engine was not "written" for nV cards. It simply just uses an OpenGL renderer. Carmack doesn't prefer nV cards, as a matter of fact his primary dev machine is an XB360 with an ATi chip!
ATi just needs to get on the ball with their OpenGL performance, lucky for them OpenGL is limited to only a few games and some retarded screensavers.

Good to see you running on a DFI Expert man, did you take my advice and go for it? :)
BTW - Looks like my FX-57 just slightly edges your X2 out in 3DMark05...although you probably enjoy your smooth multitasking abilities, I just couldn't get used to the slower frames so I went back to my FX-57 :)
I'm looking at the FX-60 when it comes out tomorrow (I believe).
Yes I love this board :D
Whats your FX57 clocked at? Are you running over 3GHz?
Its a shame this X2 CPU's very rarely get over the 3GHz range... the FX60 should be killer if it can do over 3GHz :)

3.13GHz and so far I've seen the FX-60 doing 3GHz, not sure what cooling though...stock is 2.6

The 6800Gt may win in Q4 and other openGL games but the X800XT is quite a bit faster then the 6800Gt in D3D games.I know my X800XT was faster then my 6800ultra in quite a few games ,but for OpenGL the 6800ultra won hands down.
