Does one exist? If so where?

DeCSS.
It was illegal in a few countries for a while, but it's how most people watch DVD's in linux. I think all suits were dropped though and it was declared public domain as of 2005. Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DeCSS) has a page on it, and you can find more info from google.

That that one to see if it work, I guess you are look for free DVD decoder probably because of XP SP2 removed software DVD decoder so you are no longer watch DVD for free and have to buy DVD software to view DVD.

If you install the demo of Power dvd, Windows Media Player will be able to play dvd's.

Media Player Classic (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=84358) has a dvd decoder built right into the executable file. Although I actually override it and use paid version of PureVideo Decoder instead.
