View Full Version : Flash plugin issue...
Ever time I clear the browser’s cache I need to reinstall macromedia's flash plug-in. It's a rather easy thing to install, and because of that it almost isn't an issue, but I was wondering if anyone else has seen this issue, or better still found a solution to it... I'm Running IE 6 with all the latest updates installed. The flash version these days is 8. When you visit a page with flash and it's missing it just prompts you to install it. (after the cache is cleared, just like on a new system that has never seen flash before.)
give this a try... please let us know how you make out...
Sounds to me like an error within Internet Explorer. Perhaps some registry settings or files got corrupted. If I were you I would just use Firefox with flash player (http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash).
wow...was i drunk or something ...

my parents computer does the same thing. did the fix work?
sweet thanks for the input I’ll try the fix right now and see how it works…
Edit: No such luck... Deleteing my cache actually removes the "Shockwave flash object" for me. Is there an off line installer for flash? Like a redistribution version, a guy could download and install. I'm not sure why I think that might work but it's something I wanted to try. I just couldn't find a download for it. If it even exists… It’s also nice to know that I’m not the only one with this issue. Not that I’m glad other have problems, but when I “google tech’d” this one I couldn’t even find other people complaining about such an issue.
Sometime soon I’ll search for, and remove, any flash related registry keys. Then reinstall and see where that gets me. I’ll post the results after it happens.

Used the flash uninstall program to remove flash. Then searched the registry for every mention of macromedia, and deleted it. Then searched my hard drive for anything macromedia, and deleted it. Then I cleared my IE cache, and cookies, rebooted and reinstalled flash. After which I cleared IE's cache and sure enough my flash plug-in was missing and needed to be installed again.
what a dumb little problem. I'm at my wits end here. :surrender
