Cause we can't all afford to upgrade everything in one go, at least by this you can get the card, then in a few months get the asrock dual and an opty

its not that expensive... If you can afford a 7800GTX or w.e this petition is for you can get a pci-e/s939 board for about 200$

What you think is not that expensive and what i think is not that expensive are totally different things I'm sure.

I think there should be a petition to stop all the petitions asking for AGP versions of $500 video cards

If you can't be constructive don't post, sick of hearing whining pci-e owners

So where did 6800GS come from?

6800GS can only be found by add on manufacturers and e-tailers so here are no PC manufacturers and system builders had 6800GS installed, the listing is here (http://www.nvidia.com/object/6800gs_launch_partners.html).

Signed.

10,000 signatures wont be enough, 1 million will change Nvidia mind. ;)

So, according to you there has never been an AGP version of a $500 video card??

Dude... Give it up man. Seriously.

FWIW I'm right there with you on this. I wanted to stay with my "old" AGP system because as a single card user there is almost -0- benefit to this "upgrade". It's a forced upgrade so they can strongarm you into a new chipset along with that graphics card.

But guess what? All these petitions, all the posting from people like you (and me), it did NOTHING... If they were going to create an AGP version of new high end cards they would have done so already.

It's over with man. You will just have to bite the bullet on this one.

Nahhh... a 7800GS AGP will work quite nicely for me 'till about Q2 '07. No need to bite the bullet just yet.

Couldnt someone, say Gigabyte or MSI or whatever, basicly just build a AGP version if 7800 cards using Nvidias HSI chip?
If they wanted to, NV wouldnt try to stop then right?
bit odd if noone realizes that potential market, ofcource the HSI adds a bit to the cost, but being the only one offering AGP versions sounds like a sound marketing idea to me..

Yeah I think the idea behind the petition is to send it to nvidia and it's partners, or I would assume so any hows. its a lot of money if 10,000 people buy a $300 card

I dont think it makes much difference really..
They must have some figures on how the market looks, and if they deem it profitable enough they would act on it.

I think the general idea is to move atleast the enthusiast market into PCI-E as soon as possible, it might be important to coming technology like Vista.
Perhaps even more so on the lower end as they will need to rely on virtual memory to handle Avalon I think, over HyperMemory/NVs equiv (forgot name).

A good stepstone is this Mobo Im currently using, upgraded CPU and mobo from S754 and kept my AGP card until I can upgrade it, and when I do I have a PCI-E x16 slot for it.

In my admittedly uneducated opinion here I'm guessing it would probably be profitable however they realize that more money would be made by forcing people into a chipset along with the card.

I DO NOT WANT a 7800 AGP now that I JUST bought a 6800 GT AGP last week!! It means I'd feel really stupid and would have to eBay this awesome card I just bought so I can buy 2x the performance and the same price.

Why don't people just buy on of these (http://www.asrock.com/product/product_939Dual-SATA2.htm)

It's a great upgrader's board with both AGP 8x and PCIe 16x, it's pretty fast, apparently very stable, and very inexpensive. I looked very closely at one of these before deciding to infuse a bit more cash and go SLI.

Honestly, what's the big deal?
