I have the Silicon Image 3112 SATA Raid controller card and I have questions. I want to use this card not for Raid, but just to control more hard drives. I also want to use the newest Bios and drivers for it from the Silicon Image website.

My problem is I see Bios options, one for IDE and one for Raid. My card currently has a older bios which supports both, I think?? It used to be easy where it was one Bios to update this card, now I see 2. Can somebody please tell me which Bios I need??

Does the newest Raid Bios also allow plain JBOD configuration, or do I need the IDE Bios for that?

i'm not sure but if you dont care about RAID i'd just go with the IDE bios

I would say that if your card is the "RAID" version, use the RAID drivers/BIOS. You can use a RAID controller card to add additional drives without having to put them in a RAID configuration. Just install the card and drives, install the necessary Windows drivers, and move along. If you are not going to use any of the RAID functions, don't go into the RAID BIOS and mess with any of the settings.
