Thanks man, I'm seriously considering ordering this monitor. I absolutely love my VP201s and other reason I considered replacing it would be for the 16:10 aspect.

The reviews in Anandtech and Neowin's forums say it pretty good. Just hope I don't get one with dead pixels.

I wouldn't be surprised if you get a few dead pixels. I've never seen a display that didn't have at least one. What I would send it back over would be if any showed up in the center of the display, especially stuck on or stuck off pixels. Those are really annoying.

Yea mine currently has 1 that in the very lower right corner that barely visible. If it was in the center I would of taken it back.

Too bad they probably would not exchange it... Industry standard is 6 dead pixels

Actually they will. Dell has a no questions asked return policy. Been researching for the several mins about it.

Anyways, couldn't pass up such a good deal, ordered one, we'll see if its a worthy replacement to the VP201 series.

1680x1050 Pixels? whoa, not standard. so when playing games it will be stretched right? this monitor is worse then the 2001fp, and you can still grab those for $600 if your clever. If n e 1 lives in the bay area (cali) theres guys on craigslist still selling em for $600 cash, and mine came with no dead pixels :)

If you have the proper box marked in the driver it won't scale to fit the screen. So things won't get stretched out. I know there's a box in the Catalyst driver and the NVDA driver for it somewhere.

To me you play games in 1600x1200 w/this monitor (sides will be cut off slightly) and use the native res. in Windows for DVD viewing/web surfing, etc..

Depends on how good this one is. If not, Dell is getting it back.

Sure thing ;) A forum member from Neowin (http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=246836) posted a good review.

The latest games are coming with option that allow you to switch between 4:3 & 16:9, most notably HL2. For others, the monitor comes w/ software that will allow the game to either scale or run in letterbox mode. I'm not too found of a stretched screen though so we'll see what it looks like. FYI, my current LCD monitor has the same specs as the 2001fp, which is another reason why I'm waiting to compare them both.

We have both the 2001FP and 2005FPW here and both have zero dead pixels. Dell seems to test their displays very well before shipping. Sure its a weird rez and you will have some small probs with older games that don’t support widescreen but I have not seen a newer game that did not(HL2 is simply amazing in widescreen). A few improvements over the 2001FP are that it's brighter and more colorfull, it doesn't have the "screen door effect" (although that never bothered me with the 2001FP), its faster at 12ms response, and is widescreen:p
Good price too, I got mine on sale for $630 so this is a steal.

Nah, you can set it so it doesn't stretch the image. They do look a little weird if you want to play a game at 1280x1024 in full screen.
Here's a nice forum that I found that has tons of info on widescreen gaming

I've bought a 2000FP and a 2001FP new. Both had at least two dead pixels. A friend of mine also got a 2001FP and it had two dead pixels.

We're both satisfied customers but I definitely wouldn't expect a perfect display.

Well, the Dell 2005FPW finally arrived last night and I took some time to do some thorough testing with a variety of movies and games.

The screen was very easy to setup and one of the brightest LCD's I've ever seen to date. The monitor stand is very easy to adjust and the package comes with a DVD-D cable which some other mfgr's *cough* Viewsonic *cough* often fail to include.

Widescreen gaming is one of the most incredible experiences a gamer can have on a pc. It truely takes being immersed in an environment to a completly new level. While playing CS:S at times it almost felt as if I were cheating because of how much more of the field was now visible. Widescreen is also more natural since our eyes tend to view the world in landscape rather than 4:3 aspect. One thing that also surprised me was after doing research was the amount of games out that support widescreen format through menu options or edit ini files. The only downside is that a lot of them, especially fps, use 2D menu systems, so even though the 3d environment will look fine, the menu may seem a bit streched. Many will see it as a much worthy sacrifice though.

Watching DVD's on this thing are just icing on the cake. Since the monitor is 16:10 aspect, there will still be two small horizontal bars going across the top & bottom of the screen but now, much more of each scene is visible futher enhancing the viewing experience.

Now for the cons, this one currently has 3 dead pixels in the top left hand corner and although they're barely visible, just knowing they're there bothers me. The issue that can be a showstopper though is backlighting issue. If you search the web you'll find a lot of people have complained to Dell about the problem. The Nov revision models are much more likely to suffer from this problem vs the Dec models. I of course received a Nov revision that has very inconsistent backlighting in the top left and right hand corners. This hurt while watching dvd's or playing games that are relatively dark, aka Doom3. Enlight of this Dell, is overnighting me a replacement that should arrive by tomorrow or Friday.

If you're currently considering this LCD, for now I'd recommend to hold off for a month or two until Dell is rid of the bad batch that is currently on the market. They're apparently also working on an official fix for the problem but we all know that will take a while.

FYI, I'll upload some pics after the new one comes in.

That's probably why the monitor was $559. They wanted to clear out the rest of the bad displays.

Is that running on a Matrox Parhelia? I dont know of any other cards that can run games with 3 monitors... oh wait... the Parhelia cant either. It can display them on 3 monitors... but running them is a whole different story ;)

No not really. Dell has run 25 - 30% off coupons on their popular LCDs (2001FP) for a long time now, the 2005FP was no different. Due to the current manufacturing process of how LCDs are made, its not often you get a pefect one. Besides, 3 dead pixels out of 1.7million really isn't bad as long as they're not in the middle of the screen. Once I get one with even backlighting, I'll probably keep it.

Yup, he's using the parhelia, notice the lack of fps stats in those screens (xmastong)

Sorry to hear about you probs |JuiceZ| :( Hopefully your next one will be better than this one. Mine is a November model and doesn't seem to suffer from the backlight issue so hopefully you dont get another defective one. Let us know how it goes.

Btw, always do overnight shipping on monitors. This way it doesn't get beat up for 4/5 days with ground;)
