Is this CPU really that bad? I know it doesn't compare to the Athlon 64 X2, but I was looking at geting one for a good price. Right now most Athlon 64 X2CPUs except for the 3800+ are up there in price.

Well I got it anyway. the specs are below. It runs well, but it's no where near as fast as I thought. Maybe the reviews were right after all.

I got the system for a killer price. It was tough to resist. Even though it only has a Pentium D, I thought it was O.K. It's not a slow system by any means. In fact, I benched it against an Athlon 64 X2 3800 + system. Here's what I got.

3DMark 2001SE:

My system = 21426 X2 3800+ = 23034

3DMark 2003:

My system = 15501 X2 3800+ = 15008

3DMark 2005:

My system = 7112 X2 3800+ = 7246

If these benchmarks are worth anything, they show my system fairly even with the X2 3800+ with the exception of 2001SE which is much more CPU dependent. Both systems had the same video cards and drivers. I tested the X2 3800+ at a local Best Buy. The 3800+ is definitely faster, but not by a wide margin. I'm not sure it would be too noticeable in games. Of course, an X2 4400+ would blow me away, but it would also cost a lot more than the Pentium D system. Not as bad as I thought.

I've actually had the system for a little over a week. I was too embarrassed to say I bought a Pentium D. Maybe you guys could've talked me out of it!!!
