ok guys i need some help here. well i build a server with 2TB of storage. im using dual gigabit ethernet to get to the server, so speed isnt an issue (ya i know latency).... but anyways im putting all my cdroms on the server so i dont want to have to keep flipping out cd's and dvd's anymore so what im looking for is a good virtual cd rom drive that will work over the network..any recommendations?
:D

Thanks

I used to like Daemon-Tools, but I can't stand it anymore for some reason. I love Alcohol 120%. I also have the exact same setup going =] It is only 1 TB though. Running compiled from stage 1 Gentoo Linux though =]

so alcohol 120% will allow shared storage over the network?..

Yup, I'm using it just fine... If I'm getting what you are doing right. What I'm doing is have various iso images of cd's and dvd's on my network server. I also have it mapped in windows. So I'm just using Alcohol 120% to mount the various images...

Daemon Tools will do the same thing and its free.

Both Alcohol120 and Dtools share part of the same develpoment team.

If you need it to emulate copy protected software Dtools is currently better, Alcohol falls behind here but thats cause Alcohol hasn't been updated in a while. Dtools takes up a smaller memory foootprint also.

Alcohol hasn't been updated in awhile, I think thier waiting for virtual IDE emulation which will be implemented into Dtools first and then Alcohol.

I would use Dtools.

Dtools user base is huge compard to Alcohol, I guess this would be the cause of more complaints or precieved discrepancy.

I've used them all, and yes there was a time Alcohol was better and probably will be again. Alcohol use to get updated frequently but hasn't recently because thier waiting on a vitual IDE driver.

Dtools has been updated very recently and can emulate almost all copy protections.

Alcohol comes with nice burning software though.

When a virtual IDE driver becomes avaliable and if used in both packages then Alcohol will best again but for now IMHO just for plain cd/dvd emulation Dtools is better.

I like Alcohol over Daemon Tools for one thing there is no tray icon, and I can just right click on the drive in my computer and mount an image. For me that works way better.
