Synchronous and Asynchronous clock/mem speeds

Is there an advantage to having my R300's speeds synchronized?

you would have to do a comparison test between async and sync settings, but from what I've seen having sync settings is only useful for CPU/Mem. Otherwise why would the TI4600 deafult be 300/650, or the R9500 275/270, etc
