So it gets 1000 more 3dmarks to nvidia's last gen card, big deal. Thats like comparing the gf7 to the x800.
Everything is relative. My two 7800GTs score higher than the XTX single and costs about $100 less (estimated). Six of one...

Why are some of the numbers marked out? :\
Prolly to make a fake photoshop look more real.

...the actual reason is to remain more anonymous from ATI... so they don't get in trouble?

The G71 will smoke the XTX.
I'm glad to see ati back in the hunt again though.
Nvidia has been spanking that @ss for a while now.
So nvidia is going to let ati lead for a whole month or two. "lol" (nana2)
Is the Xfire score in 3DMark05 also? It seems kind of low but I guess we don't know the system specs. Maybe it wasn't a high-end system.
Edit: Nevermind, I temporarily forgot 3DMark05 isn't as dependent on the CPU like 3DMark06 so it's probably not the system.
Actually its poor ati now, the x1900 ties the 512meg gtx.

the new 3D Mark 2006 seems very partial to NV hardware, from what I have seen the 7800 GTX 256 socres better then X1800 XT 512, even though that card has been shown to be faster then 7800 GTX 256 in many cases in real games when AA & AF are enabled of course.

Does the new 3dmark06 default to using AA and AF though?

No.
No AA because of HDR, no AF because of "optimal" as futuremark says;)

You mean that ATI will finally release a card which beats a 7800 GTX which shipped 7 months ago? Poor nvidia indeed ;)
Especially because the new 7900 GTX is rumored to score ça 13.000 points in 3dmark05 in a single card configuration.

Morrow, who cares about 3DMark. In 2003 and 2005, the old X800 series beat the 6800U. However, in games it was a give and take battle. Hell, in 2006 edition, the regular ole 7800GTX beats the X1800XT, and it is clear that the X1800XT smashes it in games (especially high AA/AF). Now, I want both the x1900xtx and G71 to be out in force (not vaporware like the 7800GTX 512 or delayed like the x1800xt) so we can get a fair comparison. Then, pick the best card for you. Personally, I care about FPS and racing games only :D . Viva Nvidia and ATI as competition is a good thing.
I mentioned 3dmark because the thread starter mentioned 3dmark.
Not that I care anyhow about that benchmark. I stoppped using 3dmark after 3dmark2001 shipped
I'm going to take the same stance on this that the ATI fanboys took.
Remember when the GF7 series hard launched, and ATI's answer was nowhere to be found? What did ATI fanboys say? "You can't compare the X850 line to the GF7 series, it's not fair!"
Same applies here. You cannot compare the X1900 line to the 7800 series. It has to be compared to the 7900 series. We'll see then.

Yeah, but isn't the GF 7900 part of the 7 series? I agree you can't compare those to the X800 or X850 cards since those are a previous generation, but any GF7 should be comparable to any X1x00 line of card since they're all the same family.
well, i dont' know about you, but i have gave up looking at 3Dmark scores!
I have noticed in couple of version's of 3Dmark ATI cards score higher yet, they perform really bad when it comes to the games! ( low Frame rate..etc)
so i dont think its "Poor Nvidia", i think its more "Poor us" :P i mean we have to buy the cards right? and some of them cost ..uh... well you know!

Not really, this is like comparing the Geforce FX 5900 Ultra vs Radeon 9700 Pro or Geforce FX 5800 Ultra vs Radeon 9800 Pro.
The G70's competition is R520. However R580 which is a enhanced R520 should be compared to the G71 and not G70.
It's obvious ATI will hold the lead with X1900 XTX overall as it meant to compete with G71 and not G70. If it's slower then G70 then it's in trouble.
This situation shouldn't last long hopefully G71 will be here by Early March at the absolute latest.
According to the Inq, R580's intention was to compete with G70U, though I can't say I really buy that.
I think that in the end, R580 will nudge out the GTX 512 and nVidia will come back to a slight dominance with G71. ATi'll get a couple months to push some units before handing the hat back, and that's a good thing for everyone. This may signal another month or two of GTX 512 availability (at or near MSRP, maybe).
I don't reckon it matters what a card was designed to compete with, so long as it's fast, looks good and runs stable.
It sure is a shame that ATI couldn't get it right with the x1800xt :D
Of course the R580 is faster than the G70. The G70 technology is almost 1 year old, to barely edge it out it unacceptable IMO.

Yeah, they should have just skipped the X1800XT and waited until the X1900 was ready.
Edit: Although, it's not really looking like much of a difference between the X1800XT and X1900XT so far in some of the early reviews.

This HDR+AA has become the buzz of the day like SM3.0 was once before.I like HDR in all of its formats.I have to confess I have changed my mind about Source HDR I liked it when I played CS:S Militia map contrary to what I've said before. :o

i think ATI has superior image quality and rendering, but i guess that's an aesthetic preference/opinion?

You're wrong and you should be banned.
Kidding. IMO though, it's preference right now. Both offer a card that can run games just as well, if that's what you're going for.
