my C++ wont install, XP SP2, ive done everything microsoft suggested and Ive found this artical http://forums.techguy.org/print/123860-installing-vb-6-0-pro-xp-pro-sp1.html

now if someone could help me out I need a registy key from a win 98 machine, you dont have to install C++ just do this

First : Install VS on a win98 machine, but abort when you have to choose install dir.
Second : Run RegEdit, find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio
export it to a file.

send me the registy key or post it, I need it for C++ class and this method seems like its working so any help would be great and thank you

Sounds like someone has a stolen copy...

Unfortunetly, I don't have Windows 98 anymore. If you had asked a few years earlier, perhaps...

(And I'm assuming this is a legal copy your trying to install.)

Have you tried looking at key.dat in notepad/wordpad to see if the key you need is in there?

I used to run VS6 Enterprise back when XP first came out with no problems. I've also reinstalled it recently to try out the G15 keyboard samples in the logitech SDK since they were created in VC6 with no problem, so I don't have a solution for you nor do I have win98 installed.

You need to install a JVM, I had the same issue where Setup.exe just closes, and ACMSetup.exe doesn't do much. Install a JVM, the Microsoft JVM if you can, and you should be able to install it.
