Hey everyone ... my question is: What is the difference in a generic HDMI cable that cost around $20 from a MONSTER HDMI cable that cost around $120 dollars? I want to know if I would be paying for the name “Monster”

"Monster" cables are snake-oil of the purest quality.
unless your a hi-fi buff and have really good amps and speakers i wouldnt waste my time....however if you do want to spend on some good cables i'd go with audioquest (http://www.audioquest.com/)

HDMI is digital, not analog. HDMI is both a digital audio and video connection. At the end of the day 0 is 0 and 1 is 1. Unless you're having amazing amounts of EMI/EMF it doesn't matter. There is no magic cable. While HDMI does push a large amount of data ~1.65Gbps you don't need a cable made of solid gold.
Monster are the same idiots who sell gold-plated power cables, because the aluminum power-cable coming into your panel isn't good enough?

cables make a difference....but not enough of a difference with regular run of the mill equipment to warrant their cost....if you are really really into music and video and want to go with stuff like Krell (http://www.krellonline.com/) it makes a huge huge difference....my dad is into the whole hi-fi scene....he's spent close to 200K on his system.....you can tell the difference when you use crappy cables and really good ones...
you just opened up a huge can of worms..
WALMART, dont get any with cut's or gash's. Other than that your good to go.

I'd also like to mention that gold connectors make a difference IF and only if everything they are being plugged into is also gold. Even then, you'd probably never notice. Plus with digital connections such as hdmi or dvi the differences are even less noticable than the already unoticable differences with analogue.

Best place I found to get good quality cables including HDMI is online at www.monoprice.com. Its a shame that Monster Cable has pretty much taken over most retail.
