The PCSuperstore has a listing for the XFX GeForce 7800GS AGP. You can check it out here:http://www.pcsuperstore.com/products/J45135-Pine_Technology-PVT70KUAF7.html/froogle/

It's supposed to be availible on Feb 09. And it looks like these guys are trying to screw the disperate buy taking pre-orders at the tune of $395. I think I'll wait and see if the price comes down after the 9th.

If that price is indicative of what other e-tailers will be charging for it after it's released, then I foresee an even greater demand for the 6800GS AGP. The GS is a nice deal now, as is the $200 X850xt at Microcenter (but the rebate offer ends on Jan. 31st for that deal), and either card should provide most of the performance of the 7800 AGP for a great deal less.

Somebody on the Hardforums picked up a BFG 7800gs OC AGP for $349 at a CompUsa. A 7800gt is 379 at Compusa. If that $30 difference translates over to the online retailers, it might be worth it. A 7800gs in AGP for around $260 might not be that bad. However, they might be able to get a bunch more for this card, as it probably is going to be the pinnacle of AGP performance.

On a 6600GT, I'd complain to. I'm not thoroughly satisfied with how my oc'd 6800GT plays F.E.A.R.

This is so sweet. All it needs to do is creep down to about $299 and I'm all over this thing. Hell, I might just go ahead and face the wrath of my wife and grap it up at $349. :D

It's not that fantastic imho. Im pretty sure 8x agp can handle a 7800 gtx 512. Doesnt really seem that big of a step up from a 6800 ultra or even a gt. Hopefully it will be able to unlock some pipes and overclock to greatness, otherwise it wont be worth the money to upgrade.

6700 is 3dmark05 seems pretty good, given that the 24pipe 7800gtx scores well... 7800.
Its just the price, theres no way they can milk agp users for 370 beans for a neutered 7800gtx.

and why would anyone pay 370 for a AGP if you can get a pci-e for 285

Because a PCI-E card doesn't fit in an AGP slot :p At least not without a sledgehammer it won't.

im just saying.. goin from a 9800 xt to a 6800 gt was well worth the $370. Going from a 6800gt to a 7800gs to me is not really worth the $370. BUT.. if its able to unlock pipes or overclock well so its up to gt or gtx performance.. then ill snatch one up.

Well, I dont' know why I'm all excited. I'm not going to be able to get one anyway. With the budget my wife is allowing(yeah she's the boss of me..lol) I'm probably going to end up with X1600pro AGP. Oh well.

So is this thing about the speed of a 6800 Ultra? I know the 7800 GT isnt a whole lot faster than an Ultra in most benchmarks, seems logical that the GS would be a decent percentage slower than that.

JamesDax

From what I've been reading it's faster then a 6800GT but slower then at 7800GT so, how it rates vs. a 6800Ultra...???

Hi all - Im a UK student needing to upgrade my gfx card - had a pc custom built in 2004 when i started my course - just missed out on pci express, and have a s754 cpu and mb. Cant afford new cpu, board and gfx card. Was gonna get the 6800gs agp but got caught out by the xfx extreme problem. Im gonna get the 7800gs now, to last me till next year when i graduate and can treat myself to a beast of a system. Some quick q's

1) How many molex connectors does this card need?
2) will my 400w psu run it? If i can get away with my current psu ill treat myself to another gb of ram. Dont know make or rail loads but i paid extra for a quiet hi grade model when i had my pc built. Dont really wanna take it apart just to check specs on the psu casing

1. The card has one 4pin molex connector
2. Your psu should be fine.
