Two people I know are planning to buy laptops but in the budget-range. Could you guys make any recommendations as to the CPU's and also make. If you've got a couple of good review sites, the links would be appreciated.
Am I right in saying that the Intel name 'Centrino' only refers to a whole package with some other stuff but that includes a Intel M processor.

Try these sites for information:
Centrino (http://www.intel.com/products/centrino/index.htm) is a (very successful) marketing campaign Intel introduced a few years ago. For a laptop to get the coveted "Centrino Mobile Technology" sticker, it has to have 3 things: an Intel Pentium M processor (or, more recently, "Core Duo/Solo"), an Intel Mobile Chipset (i855, i915, etc), and an Intel wireless mini-PCI card (2200/2915/etc). The term is often misused to refer to the processor itself, "I have a Centrino processor at 1.73GHz."
id go with the Pentium M or the Yonah core (i believe its Core Duo). good performer. as for wireless, the centrino chipset finally has a/b/g support, so id go with that. then id go for 1GB of memory and the best video gpu they can afford.

i recently bought a laptop and ill say go for the M. the Turion from AMD is decent but when it comes to battery life, the M beats it hands down. and look into what graphics subsystem you want. the ATI ones have technology in them to turn off certain parts to save more battery life. i have a dell d610 and i LOVE it. the battery life is about 5.5 to 6 hours and it weighs 5 lbs. thats what i wanted. also, to me weight was very important, and 5.5 lbs and under was the only way to go.
