I am considering bying a 20" TFT which runs at 1680 x 1050. I wonder if it is possible to use that resolution with GeForce 6200 and Solaris 10? Anyone tried that resolution, ever on Solaris? Standard resolutions are 1280 x 1024 and 1600 x 1200. Ive never seen a choice to set 1680 x 1050 in Solaris.

I'm no expert on this, but I think only the display modes your monitor is capable of running are displayed. So, since you don't currently have a widescreen monitor, widescreen resolutions will not be available for use.

All that I know is that I have a GeForce 6200 and run a dual display with the monitor and the TV. As superkyle said, the nView options automatically offer the possible resolutions for both. My TV is 27", but the maximum resolution is only 1024x768. What it would be with your TV, would be a matter of trial and error.

I thought that the graphic card determined the possible resolutions? Not the monitor? If I plug in a wide screen monitor, then it wont matter because the card doesnt supply that resolution? It is the card's resolutions that is selectable? Or?

The resolution is selectable, separate from the monitor, but like I said, the highest resolution available on my setup is 1024x768. The refresh rate appears to be controlled by the same setting as the monitor. On mine, I have found that the TV is really only good for displaying movies. Text windows are too blurry to be practicable. All of this may be due, simply to the settings or the TV that I have...I don't know.

Yes, see my post on this earlier. Includes my xorg.conf for a Dell 2005FPW.
