Just wanted to know which audio player people are using. I was using WMP9, but then I got these Sennheiser HD212 Pro headphones for Christmas, and I didnt seem to like WMP much after that :p So I dl and installed good ole Winamp2 with the MAD pluggin, much better. Last night I came across another player, sound as good as Winamp2+pluggin(s) but with just the basics, no skins, just a player with good sound. You may or not have heard of it before, its called Foobar2000, and you can check it out right here (http://foobar2000.hydrogenaudio.org)

Anyways, if anyone else has a fav audio player, be sure to let us all know about it here, also list fav pluggins also.

:jammin: <-- Me since getting some decent headphones for my pc, never listerned to much music before on my pc, but now all the time, hoping to get an Audigy2 early March, cant wait 24bit goodness :super:

I've been using winamp since the 0.x versions, though I hate 3.x heh, so I'm currently using 2.x

I use Winamp 2.x for most of my music. It's just been a great player; low performance hit, great quality, and free without spyware to boot.

The latest Winamp 2 with mad and enhancer plugins.

Winamp2 is superior because of the MAD decoder plugin, but i still like WA3's skinning features. why the hell can't they let us use plugins for WA3

Hmm something I never thought of doing before, but lastnight I upgraded WinDVD4 to WinDVD Platinum ;) and tried my mp3s on it. All I can say is after playing around with the settings like SRS TruSurroundXT and the likes, I like..I like alot, only bummer is that it doesnt support oggs :( I suggest if you dont have it already, to go and at least dl the trial and try it out.

Winamp 3.0 : tried it, didn't like it too much. Back to 2.78, and I love it.

XMMS is pretty cool too. ;)

WinAmp has been spectacular until 3 came out. It doesn't last too long before it starts quiting with illegal operations. I've gotten pretty sick of it.

I'm using Media Player 8 for lack of anything better.

I liked XMMS when I used Linux, but it would skip whenever I minimized or restored its window; that was really annoying.

Yeah, I don't know what the deal is. I wasn't speaking in terms of everyone having those problems, just myself.

I've done many fresh installs of XP (I like to break things :D ) and I have never found WA3 to be stable at any time. I know people who it runs flawlessly for, but it just isn't working out for me.

Winamp 2.80. Didn't like Winamp 3.
Also WMP 7.1 and Media Player 6.4. But I have the multimedia files associated with Active Movie, the fastest player on Earth!!
Using Winamp or WMP to listen to a mp3 is like using Corel Draw to see a 3k GIF instead of ACDSee or similar.

Just tried MAD... it sounds like an ogg. But that's comparing a 320Kbps MP3 to a 240Kbps Ogg.

Scary.

16bit output or 24bit output? or even 32:firedevil

I had the same thing with XMMS. I was able to fix it by increasing the buffer on the output plugin (can't remember what it is offhand...I'm in Windoze at the moment) from 3000ms to 10000ms. Give that a go!

Oh, and I'm running Winamp 2.81 in Windoze and XMMS (1.2.7?) in Red Hat 8.0. The sound is a little bit better in Windows, in my opinion...

Cheers,
JND

been using QCD (http://www.quinnware.com) for a while due to its full skinning capabilities and less mem usage than wa3 although I haven't tried wa2 w/ mad plugin though, I'll have to hear that sometime...

32-bit, of course.

But Ogg is still a vastly superior format to MP3...

I've finally found a version of WA3 that doesn't give me illegal operations every time I try to do something with it. 3.0c has allowed me to transition from WA2 to 3 without any headaches. I'm using the MMD3 skin and am loving it. :D

listening to Closer (NIN) with MAD now.

MUCH better than it used to be. there's actually bass and clarity.
