Got a hold of a BFG 7800gs from a hookup of one of my buddies, not necessarily mine but thought be fun to benchmark.

As you can see my systems in my sig below (minus the 6800U. since I haven't updated my sig since selling it) decided to play around with one of these bad boys as many people currently are. Just thought i put my scores to help those decide on whether to upgrade to the 7800gs or not from a current 6series video card.

For some reason I cannot publish my results from the 7800gs so I cant provide any links with the full detailed score. If anyone of you would know why its not giving me the option to publish, let me know so I can put links.

3dmark 05'
7800gs @ 400mhz / 1250 (BFG OC STock) = 5904

7800gs @ 470mhz/ 1250 = 6401

7800gs @ 480mhz/ 1400 = 6566

7800gs @ 500mhz/ 1400 = 6642

Each test with NO artifacts nor glitches or lockups. Temps maxed under 60c. constantly. I'll try clocking this card higher when i have more time and see what happens, but so far so good. So pretty impressive scores, It is definately worth upgrading to in my opinion even after having had the BFG 6800Ultra with best score of about 6200 on 3dmark 05.

Wow, those are very nice overclocks... I was only able to do 480/1380 stable on mine. Congrats on the massive overclock on the 7800 GS!

^^ Definately, Im going to bench more later on tonight when I get some time to see if I've already hit the maximum OC or not. Hey I see you finally got your system all built up like how you were talking about before

....nice motherboard you got there ;)

What I want to know is, can you fit the NV5 on this thing? THAT would be awesome!

Yeah my system runs great I had it water-cooled for about 6 months then changed it back to air just because the size of the case and since it was only just a test to see if it could be done, I now have a Antec P180 for a case. I still have the water blocks and radiator that I'm going to be selling soon. :)

Yea, shame its only single DVI... so nobody has been able to unlock an extra quad on this yet? I think its impossible, 20 pipes would be sweet :)

Nice, nice. It's a bit more expensive than X850XT AGP models, in the UK at least but they will eventually drop in price and complete properly. Plus with all the features this one has, it's really a no brainer. :)

I have the same problem with the X1900XTX. I can submit results but not publish them so I can't get a link to post. Does it say the 7800GS is a "generic VGA chipset"? I thought maybe that was why it wouldn't let me publish the XTX results (i.e. doesn't look like it recognizes it properly for some reason). It calls it a generic VGA chipset.

can you run games for over an hour without artifacts at that clock speed. I could achieve that on my 7800 gt but after about 10min of play I got artifacts.

If your looking for on in the toronto, canada area Logic Computer House has them in stock on the shelves.

Well I'll be back later and let you know what I think.

After some testing my BFG7800GS overclocked to 480/1480 with zero artifacts, at 490 core there was some minor artifacting, the memory showed artifacts at 1490 using ATItool (nice little app).

Some comparisons between my 6800GT and 7800GS. The 6800GT was benched at 410/1190, some minor artifacting, using ATItool the memory is actually only artifact free at 1140 and the core at 405.

6800GT (410/1190), 7800GS (480/1480) , 83.40 drivers, XP64, using the rig in my signature.

CS:S, 1920x1200 everything on high except reflections set to world only, no AA, 2x Ansio.

6800GT, 90.7 FPS
7800GS, 117.91 FPS

3DMark05

6800GT, 5724 Marks
7800GS, 7121 Marks

3DMark06
6800GT, 2703 Marks
7800GS, 3400 Marks

All in all I like it.

For thoose of you that had problems with Fastwrites and NF3 boards its gone with 7800GS, runs perfectly FW on.

Card also runs very cool, 38c idle, 56c peak, rthdrbl.exe for 1 hour.

Put about 3 hours of use in, so far so good.

Edit:

After much more game playing/testing, I found that 480/1570 are max overclock on my card with zero artifacting, can't believe the memory went so high. Have it set to 475/1550 fpr gaming.

When I tested the first time I had the core at 485, it would artifact a little after extensive use and I tried for max memeroy clock and hit a wall at 1480 but at 480 core the memory went to 1570 artifact free, it would seem the memory is sensitive to core errors (at least on my card).

How is it to a x850xtPE or 6800Ultra got both and wouldn't mind upgrading.

I had the 6800GT and 6800Ultra and I find that the 7800Gs is a reasonable upgrade worth investing into.

In just comparing stock benchmark scores, the 7800gs is better and when running games @ 500/1400 on the 7800gs I get much better gameplay and smoother textures and so on. I've seen the 7800gs as low as $300 on some e-tailers so that is not a bad price at all.

My friend has the x800xt PE and the 7800gs outperforms that as well when in comparison of FPS in FEAR and CoD2. I would assume the it would also outperform the x850xtPE since its merely an overclocked version of the x800xtpe :p

All in all, would you say it's a justifiable expense to go from a 6800GT to a 7800GS? I'm looking at the XFX 7800GS XT (runs at 440/1300 stock). I'll be unloading my 6800GT, my friend wants to buy it.

i think it could be possible, if you think about it the 7800 GT has 20, and honestly if this was based on that core it should have 20 also..... but who knows, maybe the 7800 GS core is a completely different revision core than the G70 like a G72 or something, i know that the nv40,nv41, and n42 were all used in 6800's but are all very different, the latter two being only 12 pipe cards and pci-express natively, with the nv40 being 16 pipe, agp native

looks like a fairly fast card... bummer, i just sold my msi k8n neo platinum for a epox 8pna sli board, so i had to go pcie ... going to run a couple of 6800 gs in sli mode.....figures, everyone comes out with new cards a bit too late for me.:(

so you think it's worth it...... what if you're on a budget, i don't have little money to spare on this, but if i sell off my 6800 GT i should be able to get one.... is it a budget worthy upgrade?

Can you supply the Original BIOS of your GeForce 7800 GS AGP cards? We are currently looking for those BIOS's so we can add the support for core/memory clock speeds, voltage and memory timings modding into NiBiTor. So we need some of these GeForce 7800 GS BIOS's to try it out... SO can you get those to us? Thanks! ;)
