This is completely cool. Virtual machines roxorz. Add this free product to the previously-released free Virtual Machine Player, and you can turn out portable, completely-configured workstations ... freely distributable.

yep this made my day when i heard it.... ive been using both vmware and vpc... vmware is by far the better of the two. oh ya,from what ive heard coming out of m$ there is gonning to be a built in version of vpc in vista server.

VMware plans to be firmly entrenched as THE enterprise virtual infrastructure answer, striving for complete mindshare well before Vista arrives. With the free player at VMworld, then the community source program, and now VServer, I think we have a great shot.

IMHO Xen is a toy, and will remain so as long as you need to mod the guest OS just to run in a VM.

I've downloaded the beta. Haven't tested it yet though.
