Since I fried my mobo. I have decide to get a:

Asus A7N266-VM Nforce 220-D - 71.99

and

AMD ATHLON XP 2400 /266 FSB PROCESSOR - 179

and

COOLERMASTER DP5-7JD1B-0L CPU FAN - 17

what do you think of that?

Cool, but a KT266A chipset will give you better performance.

Try this HSF instead, Coolermaster HAC-V81 X-Dream
Check the details of it here (http://www.coolermaster.com.hk/en/products/cooler/hac-v81.html)

I've been milking my kt266a ever since got it in June... Lovin it!! At right timings (and will be even better with pc2700 and higher fsb soon), this system o mine offers great performance, up to par with the newest chipsets in many regards, and it blows away my previous km133a gigabyte mobo...

kt266a's are good deals all over the place right now...

What is wrong with the ASUS A7N266 mobo?

If you want to spend a little more on the MB and stay with nvidia, the nforce2 solutions will let you run that XP2400+ with a FSB of 333 (without any paint or wire tricks).

I'm running it at 2700+ specs in my rig.

A great resource for scoping out nForce boards is: nforcershq.com

Good luck!

I just ordered an MSI kt400 chipset mobo for $80 shipped from www.newegg.com... I think it may be back up to $95 now though.

How about either the MSI or Leadtek nForce2 offerings?? Their cheaper than their abit, asus etc brethen and offer the same performance :)

They'd be a better for the XP2400+ than a KT266a offering whihc is now a very old chipset. Aim for at least KT333 and tbh avoid KT400 chipset motherboards

yeh but look @ chipset benchies... which show it's worth...

I'll admit it still sits in the "back row" with the Gf3 and ATA-100...:D:D

...it's still plenty powerful.

we're not talkin bout AMD760 or kt133a here...

When buying a motherboard it is best to move forward, the KT333 based boards are great performers, and can take the 333FSB AMDs, this should included the new Bartons, but not 100% sure. The last time I asked that question, everyone told me that Barton had a 400FSB, well it looks like I was right :p
