Q3A freezes when fog is displayed

Hi forum members,

When respawning after loading Q3DM1 Q3A (1.32b) just freezes. I can see the bright fog that appears when one respawnes. No error messages from Q3 or the Xserver. I can kill Q3 then.
The single player level before Q3DM1 WORKS!!!
In Q3demo the game freezes when I won ;-) the game and the same bright fog is put on the players at the award ceremony.

I tried (without success):
drivers: 4191, 3123, 2960
AGP: no, AGPGART, Nvidia, 4x, 2x
ACPI: on, off
APM: on, off

I really don't know what to try next.

Hy guys,

The problem is the sound driver of the 2.4.20 kernel for my K7S5A board.
The problem is gone when I disable sound in Quake3.

I have a k7s5a and had similar problems with freezing with 3d games but it seems to have corrected itself after turning off power management and ACPI in the kernel and ACPI in the bios. I have a XP2000+ CPU, geforce 2mx card and a separate PCI sound card based on the es1371 chip. I have turned off the on board sound.
I am using debian woody, XF86 4.2.1 and 2.4.20 kernel.
I use the NVIDIA AGP module not agpart.
I also used the latest k7s5a bios because I found the system was unstable with the earler bios on the board as purchased.
I am using 512 MB SDRAM.
