Guild Wars isn't a MMORPG, Its an Online Action Game.... theres no massive aspect of it at all.

Planetside went the way of Anarchy Online, you get an entire year for free. Oh also add Anarchy Online to the Free section.

GuildWar isn't a "true" MMORPG, this i know. So does everyone else. However, i just wanted to put it in the thread... because :p

Jesus, do we have to be that picky about it? Just because every time you leave a city is an instance doesn't mean it isn't an MMO. There are thousands of people on at any given time and you can meet up with them if they're on at the same time you are...isn't that essentially what an MMO is?

Jesus, do we have to be that picky about it? Just because every time you leave a city is an instance doesn't mean it isn't an MMO. There are thousands of people on at any given time and you can meet up with them if they're on at the same time you are...isn't that essentially what an MMO is?

If that was the case then Diablo 2 and every Online FPS is a MMO since they all mostly have a chat and central server. Just because you can meet a massive amount of people online doesnt make it massive, what seperates EQ2. WoW and all other true MMORPGs from GW is that you can actually meet a massive amount of people at the same time, theres no real limitation to the amount of people that an area can have. Ever EQ2 that goes by instancing doesnt impose the limit, it just recommends you play on an instance with fewer people but during my time playing you were able to join instances with over 150 poeple.

Is Planetside actually free to play right now? Or has that promotion not started yet? I haven't seen any reference to it on their main page, only that forum post made a while back.

at its core and mmo requires a few things.

- persistent world check one for guild wars

- raidable bosses check two for guild wars

- ability to have more than 60 people in the game check 3 for guild wars.

if instancing is your problem, then eq2 isnt an mmog either since like every dungeon in the game is an instance as well. if your criteria is based purely on the fact that there are no open huntable areas then i think you need to change your definition.

btw, open areas for hunting where i can kill 1 out of 30 mobs in an hour because of so many people suck and i personally hope to see everything become instanced in that case.

Istancing in EQ2 isn't locked though, They don't hae a certain limit per instance. They just create them to lower the load. In GQ all instances are locked.

As for 60+ people, please show me a single combat area with 60+ people in Guild Wars. As for Persistent World, The only part of GW thats persistent is the Town, once you exit an adventure area it is unloaded and reset.

DDO saddly falls into the same category as GW, its not a true MMO since its hub area (town) is the only part thats persistent and massive.

no, unfortunatetly thats all i know of. Everyone is having a problem with the slow download speeds :o

most people i am hearing from are only getting 30 to 100 kb/s

I only got 80kb/s when i was downloading :(

It feels like im going that slow... on Fileplanet I get 1MB/s. ;)

I should be up and running in 30mins or so... hopefully 256MB of ram is good since I can't play DDO or anything else (Q4 and Swat 4 actually do run suprisingly but look like ass).
