It isn't the first time this has happened.

Oddly enough the driver is still dated the same, which makes me wonder if anything has really changed.

Anyways this driver is still over a month older than the 83.40/60 floating around.

This....
" Performance enhancements for dual-core CPUs. "

Was in the release notes before, all they have done is modded the .inf to include support for the 7800GS, so they are exactly the same.

I got me new card and it's installed. However I had to reformat because during installation of the card itself I accidently made my sound card come loose and I got blue screens of death upon booting up into windows. At first I thought it was the video card but after putting my 6800 gt back in and the same thing happened, I knew it wasn't the video card. All is well but Ill have to install my games tomorrow to find out what it's like. In the meantime, I need some sleep after installing windows again.:o

I noticed while snooping around in NVidia's FTP server, that they didn't make two folders for the two different releases like of this driver like they did with the two releases of the 81.85's (I believe it was, don't have my benchmark list handy), but the only difference in those appears to be WHQL certification, whereas these were already certified. So, yeah, like Peoples-Agent said, I don't think they did anything to the actual driver, just the .inf file.

Being that the drivers have the same date as the old 81.98's, nVIDIA probably just rebuilt them adding support for the 7800GS and then sent them in for WHQL certification on the same day of the first 81.98 set. In other words, they had already thought ahead to this point back in December of last year.
