View Full Version : Anyone heard anything about 7900 cooling?
I've been waiting for the 7900 reviews before buying my next video card, mostly for information about the noise level of the cooler. Has anyone seen any rumors about cooling solutions for it?
If it's as bad as the 1800/1900, I may just grab a 7800 GTX and Zalman this go-round, or see if my 6800 waterblock will work with it.

No words on the cooling yet, but I have a feeling taht it might use the GTX512 cooling, maybe improved one, if necessarly. It will definitly be a dual slot cooling solution.

I can definitely see NV learnt from the mistake since FX5800 a.k.a dustbuster, I think noise will not be a problem for future NV's products, also 90nm based 7900 should consume less power and run cooler than 7800...

Im thinking it wont require as much cooling if it actually is 90nm like some places are saying. I dont think they will put anything excessive on it, so dont worry :)

I'm really interested in the cooling solution for the 7900 too. I keep wanting to buy the 7800GTX 512 because of the quiet cooler and just live with less performance but if the 7900 Series uses it then I'd wait. I wish we could find out something about it now :)
But I don't think the 7900 will consume less power, just look at the 1900XTX and you'll see how much power it takes. You would have less power if the transistor count and clock rate stayed the same but both will go up so the power will follow that.

Its gonna be triple slot cooling and you will need to modify your case and mobo to achieve sli(nana2)

I'm thinking a revised single-slot 7800 GTX cooler. Possibly semi-copper. Possibly slightly louder.
For anyone who doesn't own an X1900, the thing's remarkably loud (and hot!). The weight of the copper cooler really does a number on the PCB as well. Pound for pound, nVidia's coolers are tough to beat.
I haven't used a stock cooling solution on a videocard since the ti4200 days... There is always something better from a 3rd partt it seems.
