The x1900 is faster and much cheaper and no amount of slides is going to change that. I am waiting for the 7900 though. I ws considering the x1900 but I prefer nvidia for my cards.

Of course its faster overall, but not by as much as it needs to be. nV is almost ready for a refresh.

You would be silly to buy a GTX512 over an X1900XTX right now IMO.

But yeah newer stuff is right around the corner.

Yes but its the price of the 7800 512 that gets to me the most. They dont mention it in the slides do they. Nor do they mention availability.

Well, obviously, they're not going to shed any negative light on themselves when trying to bring ATI down a notch or 2XTX.

Well its the wrong time. They should do it when the 7900 comes out as that will be faster.

Just another marketing stunt anyway. Who cares.

I disagree. The 7900 is supposed to be on par with the X1900 XTX right?

Well, it's saying a lot for nVIDIA when their "old" and "slow" 7800 GTX is keeping up toe-to-toe with ATI's latest and greatest.

And nVIDIA still has another card to come out in this generation...so, to me, it's a "look at what the old can do, and just wait until you see how the new beats it, let alone the competition."

Well if its priced the same, I will choose GTX512 though.
I don't like noisy cards... :p

well, I tried out a x1900xtx to see what it was like. Within 20 minutes of using I had the following happen:

-freezing in madden 06 menus
-quake 4 game shut down and exit the game after finishing level 1
-their gpu restart many times (the vpu recover utility, if you need this, you need to reengineer your hardware) exiting games

They do have the speed down. Very smooth in gaming, but it's the most unstable of their cards I have ever tried or owned.

Yeah but is it priced the same? I think the GTX512 is typically still another $100 more if you can even find it.

Whew. That was really funny. I almost blew chocolate milk out my nose reading those slides.

Pft, what? $100? In the UK, a BFG 7800GTX OC retails for 646 GBP, and the 1900XTX for 399 GBP. That's the equivalent of 1,127.75 USD vs 696.602 USD. The cheapest GTX512 costs 1,024.70 USD. Now who in their right mind would go out and buy a GTX512 over a 1900, even if they could find one?

Honestly, I'm sick and tired of these slides. It's the same as the last time, when ATI was trying to convince people the 7800 has a very short life before failure. :bs:

Are those overclockers uk prices? If they are I am not suprised. They are well know for price jacking.

I am awaiting the 7900 as well... It isn't due to any fanboyness, just the simple fact that I don't want to swap out and purchase a new Mobo if I were to get X-Fire. If I could run X-fire in my current mobo I probably would have sold off my GTXs for a pair of x1900.

Man, those prices dont reflect the US at all... 7800GTX 512 is around $750 and the X1900XTX is around $600. You guys are getting ripped :o

Of course no one can get the GTX (outside of ebay)anyway, so it doesnt really matter.

Compared to other uk sites, they're actually cheaper for the X1900 series, for example:
Sapphire X1900XT 352 vs 354 vs 389. (OCUK/Dabs/Overclock.co.uk)
Regarding the GTX, Oc.uk and Overclock.uk have the same prices on some models, ie 587. Other models are somewhat cheaper, but with no due date.

Mate, I agree on that, we are getting ripped off. I was generalizing though, because I am not in the US, I talk about European prices. :)

I think their point was that it wasn't close to a clean sweep like most expected and ATI fans hoped for. Still, with the prices the way they are with the GTX 512, I think they should lay low with things like this. If they actually did sway anyone, it's not like the person could easily pick up the GTX 512.

Anyway, I agree with Lfctony on this. I really wish both sides would stop leaking these type things.

I'm just curious why nVidia even produced those slides. Was it to keep investers happy or something? I mean, really, if they are so confident their product is superior- wouldn't other people know it by now seeing how long thier product has been out and available? The way I viewed this slide it almost seemed as if nVidia was panicking- which in my mind makes no sense as they are still on top by a good lead.

Thing is we cant be 100% sure that these slides actually originate from nvidia.

Its for sales personal. What points to make when selling the hardware
example
ATI has a new card out
Oh really?
Heard is rather good
Not realy. Our 1 year old cards are up there with this new crad
Oh, what about 2 of them
We pwonage in 2 cards against theyr 2 cards
Wow, youre da man.Can i have your telephone nr?
Just the mobile one, the one given by Nvidia. The home one is from ATI and gets jealous of this things....

Or something of the kind
It's still ****e powerslides but hey

BTW here is the cheapest GTX512 i could find in the uk http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?XFX-78GTX5 so far, 494, against http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?C3D-X19XTX for 398
A no brainer in this case.X1900 all the way

If the 7900 is priced like the 512GTX it better beat the X1900 in most, if not all, tests.

I'm gonna be patient and wait to see what happens though.
