What are you using to view .mov files? I don't want to use Quicktime. And I would also like a free and as small program as possible. I'm using a very slow dial-up.

Damn, I've pick up a bad habit somewhere. :p

I use Xine :p
But yes, another vote for Quicktime Alternative. There's also a Real(player) Alternative too.
mplayer or gxine, depending on which one works. Where would I be without 32-bit chroot?

Quicktime Alternative is definitely good stuff.
I actually use Media Player Classic to play just about all of my videos.

You're entitled to your own opinion.
Could you elaborate on why you think codec packs are so bad? I've been using k-lite coded pack for ages. It comes with much more than just ffdshow.

I don't like codec packs either. 90% of what they install will never be called on. Better off imo to figure out the few codecs most of the videos you watch use and go from there. I can usually get away with 2 or 3 main codecs installed then quicktime alt.

Quicktime Pro, See no reason for anything else.

Why waste time figuring out what I need when k-lite already has everything I need in one nice easy-to-install package? I do video encoding of my own and k-lite just makes it that much easier.
Of course if all you're going to do watch is .mov files, then you don't need a bunch of codecs and tools anyway. But hey, it doesn't hurt to have installed just in case.
Codec packs? Easy to install?
$ sudo apt-get install w32codecs
If running on AMD64, then inside 32-bit chroot. Now how neat is that?
Edit: use sudo, folks

K-Lite isn't perfect, Im forced to use an older version due to the newer ones not displaying subtitles for much of my anime, plus it many times by default forces FFDSHOW to be enabled which is a resource hog for files that don't gain anything from it.
K-Lite isn't perfect
Well when it comes to computers and software, almost nothing is perfect.

well it didn't take me very long, and I rarely come across a video I can't play. If that does happen I usually just say screw it and look for an alterative format.
