ATI announced today that they have reached a "Broad Reaching Partnership" with Cadence for their silicon design tools. Predictably The deal looks towards the next design challenges on the 90nm process.
"We have tremendous respect for ATI and look forward to helping them solve their toughest design challenges at 90 nanometers and below," said Penny Herscher, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Cadence. "Complex graphics and digital media chip designs demand the best technology solutions, and it's rewarding that ATI chose Cadence as its partner, for our technology leadership across the board and, in particular, the industry-leading Encounter platform. The goal of this expanded agreement is a Cadence-centric flow that meets the majority of ATI's design needs today, and that we collaborate to meet their needs in the future."
While ATI are known to be working on the 130nm process for the upcoming RV350 chip, they will not utilise the 130nm process in a high end part until R400, which is scheduled for the latter half of 2003. This being the case its likely that R500, which is probably being developed by the same team that produced R300 (Radeon 9500/9700), will be targetted at the 90nm process being discussed here and is likely due for release within 18 to 24 months.

Good thing they are starting early considering what they could face in design problems, much like what Nvidia had with .13. It will be interesting to see how how clock speeds will be on .09 if we are up to 500 so far with .13.

nvidia is screwed

If ATI gets 325 core on .15 with a regular fan , Nvidia need vacumecleaner to get 500 on .13 , its hard to imagine what ATI will do with .09 , perhaps 1000 mhz core:D

wow, yeah.

they might face delays that make NV30 look like it launched early.

Just because nVidia have had a problem doesn't mean Ati will.

R500 is over a year and a half away. Expect it to be on time unless Nvidia releases some beast which causes them to redesign the GPU - similar to what happened to another company recently....Hmmm...can't think of it right now. Maybe I'll remember it later. :angel2:

ASCII blue, do not make fun of females. I am a female and I find that offensive.

Back OT:
Video cards are just going to get hotter and hotter, expect to see some crazy cooling solutions in future.

On 2 Chinese online websites.

ATI is rushing out R V 350 which uses 0.13u tech.
R400 will be launched later this year.
R500 will adopt 0.09U technology. ATI is working with Cadence Design System on 0.09u technology.

R350 - DDRII, 256 bit
Rumour is that R350 is 10% faster than GF FX
RV350 is the low cost X9.0 GPU.
Will replace 9500 and is cheaper than 9500.
