I'm planning to buy a new video card. I currently have a 6800GT PCIe.

The 7800GT 256Mb is priced at about $300 and the 7800GTX 256Mb is 50% more expensive (about $450).
In your opinion, is the 7800GTX worth the extra $150?

Should I wait till the 7900 is released and then buy a 7800GTX for less?

Deffinitely wait for the 7900. They might even release a 7900 that will fit into your price range. Thats what Im hoping for :)

I dont think a 7800GT would really be worth it for you right now. Wait for something a little faster thatl fit into your price range :)

I think I'm going to chug along with my 6800GT for now too and wait for the 7900. I was waiting for the 7800GS AGP but that didn't turn out as well as I expected.

Thanks for the replies. I'm gonna wait till the 7900 is out and then decide which card I will buy.

Since my shinny brand new HP 23" LCD monitor arrives on Monday ( http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/product_detail.do?product_code=P9612AR%23ABA ), I couldn't resist buying the 7800GT today when I saw this offer from Newegg ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814130256 )

I was planning to buy a SLI motherboard today but, I think I'm gonna wait for the new AM2 socket motherboards, then I'll upgrade the whole thing (Motherboard, Athlon 64 socket AM2 and 2Gb Ram DDR2-667 ) to a nice SLI rig with another matching 7800GT. (nana2)

I hope the 7800GT won't go end of life after the 7900GT comes out though. :o

I just ordered the SLIa8n32Deluxe from ASUS and going 2 gt7800 over the 78GS i just bought, will return it for a gtpciextress Saturday. I would get 2 gt's and see what that does.

IMO if you are going to get a card now and ATI is out of the question then I would go with the 7800GT simply because you can get one for $359 that has a free SLI motherboard and you can get another 7800GT for around $279,and you will have a lot more performace then going with one 7800GTX for $450,if you just want one card then I would go with the X1900XT or wait for the 7900.

Get the GT listed for $250. That SLI mobo isn't worth the $109 difference. Get an ASUS A8N SLI ($119) instead. I love mine.

I would go with the Gigabyte K8N Pro-SLI if you don't want the evga SLI motherboard, but evga offers a lifetime warranty on all there products, and they have it for $339 after the $20 mail in rebate,I had a ASUS SLI board and had nothing but headaches with it as for as overclocking and the Gigabyte overclocks great, but thats IMO.and Evga 7800Gt has come down to $270 and to $250 after the $20 mail in rebate, and they offer the best support.and it still come out cheaper buyin the Evga 7800GT and get the mother free ,all of it would be $589 after rebates,so I guess you would just be saveing around $20.
