Recovering deleted files under WinXP

Is it possible to recover deleted files (deleted from the recycle bin) by any means ??

There are acouple of programs that can accomplish that, I don't know them off the top of my head.

Stop using the hard disk immediately! The more you use it, the less change you have of recovering important files! (As deleted files may, and probably will be overwritten over time).

Another tip: DO NOT recover files to the same drive you are recovering from!

Look for Handy Recovery 1.0 it was a free utility when I downloaded it and has worked great for me many times. They have a retail version of it now but I seen a link to a freeware version on their website so it looks like they still let you download it.

If the freeware version from this link is the same as it used to be it will show version 1.0 and be fully functional and not time limited. If not just do a google search for Handy Recovery 1.0 and you should be able to find it somewhere.

Hmm handyrecovery is much easier , but most of the recoverd files didnt work.

If the file was on the system partition it's hard to get the file back intact. The way windows works is it marks the deleted files storage space as unused and then starts using the space anytime a file needs to be saved. Since windows is constantly creating files under normal use the deleted files storage area gets overwritten pretty fast. So what you're seeing is normal if it was on the system partition. That's why I use a fairly small partition for windows and store all of my important files on a non-system partition. And of course always restore a file to a different drive than it was deleted on or you may overwrite it's storage area with the recovery process.

I suggest you use data recovery software such as EASEUS DataRecoveryWizard (http://www.easesus.com) to recover files.

You can use "DeletedRecovery" to scan your partition. After the scan is complete, the lost file will be displayed in DataRecoveryWizard, you can select them and recover them.

I use one called "Restoration". It works fine under WinXP and Vista.

Well, the best way to recover files is not to delete them ;-) Fairly simple, huh? But there is a problem. Many people are iritated by full Recycle Bin icon on their desktop and have to empty it 20 times a day. That is wrong! So I advice everybody to set Recycle Bin to something like 20% of their C: drive, next delete Recycle Bin icon from their desktop, and forget about it.

When you need to recover files, go to My Computer and recover them from Recycle Bin ;-)

I used WinHex on my cousins CF card to recover some deleted pictures. That did fine although its a complicated app (used for forensics).

R-Studio NTFS is a very good utility for recovering deleted files.

But, most of all, I prefer "Recover My Files". Despite the tacky name, it recovered almost everything on my g/f's deleted, formatted, and partially overwritten HD. It can find the MFT as well as compensate for fragmented files most of the time. And its quite easy to use. That scored points with me :)
