What the...?

I don't even get what the point is...512MB of GDDR2 on a 128-bit bus with only 12 pipes. It seems completely unnecessary, especially for this card.
Hell, why not make a 512MB 6600GT while you're at it?
The average consumer assumes that more memory is better (without cosidering other things).
Heck, my father-in-law think's he's some kind of PC expert. He is stll pissed at me for building my wife a new rig, because he thinks that the A64 X2 3800+ (2.0ghz) is slower than the old P4 2.2ghz in her machine. Her machine didn't even use DDR memory.
As far as i am aware all 6800's have a 256bit bus. All that differs is clock speeds and memory. Looks like i am wrong http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?modelmenu=2&model=992&l1=2&l2=7&l3=3 however the 540MHz memory doen't say the effective rate or not so it could be 1080MHz.
