Aircraft sometimes has something called inertial navigation, which has multiple gimbeled gyros which are effected by accelleration of the aircraft in any direction. Being naturally lazy, I always find it a bit annoying to have to change my position to move a mouse across a pad or other surface, just to move the cursor. A mouse could be designed to use the same gyro precession as A/C navigation, so that a simple movement of the wrist or fingers would manipulate the cursor in the same fashion. Of course, the gyros would probably require more power, but I might even put up with a corded mouse, if it had this ability.

I've got one of those for the HTPC. It rules once you get used to it. It works as both a standard mouse or completely handheld.
For normal use though I still prefer a standard mouse with my box. I turn acceleration up a bit (only 2 notches from default) and my wrist never moves on the pad, even across 2 monitors.

Hmm...to effectively use it for gaming in the air they should have put some buttons on the bottom.

Speak of that, I have heard of some mice that are coming out soon which you hold with your hand in a handshake position, which is more natural, and would probably mostly benefit those with carpal tunnel or arthritis.

I saw a gun mouse sort of like that... not real practical, but deffinitely cool looking :D

Harnagel,

This looks pretty close to what I had in mind. The only problem is that it costs close to a hundred dollars with the options that I want, but I think that I'm going for it. I wish that they had a try before you buy option. I would hate to fork out that much and decide that I didn't like it.

If you decide to get it, let us know what your impressions are.

I'm not sure just how soon that will be, because I have a couple of other computer items to buy also. I really need a new mouse, because my Logitech cordless is giving me fits, and I hate my corded mouse.

I thought that I would order one of these mice today, but I noticed that their website only said that they were compatable with Windows and Mac, but I saw a link about troubleshooting the installation with Linux. So I called their tech support to ask if it would work with Linux. I knew that I was going no where when the tech asked what is Linux? He also said that the mouse would barely work with Mac, so I thanked him and hung up. I realize that alot of people use Windows, but I find it amazing that some people do not even know what Linux is. Therefore, I should edit the title to this thread to Wanted: Linux Inertial Mouse.

EDIT: Another bad sign was that the only thing that the Linux link did, was to open a log on window.
