View Full Version : What the hell is with Nero 7 Ultra?

It was working SPLENDIDLY up until last Friday when I was trying to burn a CD for the road trip down to Champaign to see NIN that night. I made 7 coasters (the last 7 CDRs I had, no less) using BOTH of my burners! I thought maybe it was just the older 3500A acting up or something, but the 3550A did the same thing.
It would start burning fine, get to around the 2/5ths mark and the Used Read Buffer would start to go down until, finally, after about 10 seconds, it would get to 0 and the burn would fail. And that was the only error I got: "Write error."
Gosh, thanks. That really helps me narrow down what the problem is.
I was at first trying to burn a mixture of MP3s and FLACs (using the Nero FLAC plugin) and after a few tries, I converted the FLACs>WAV>MP3 to try and burn.
Still happened. Nothing I did worked.
I got two blank CDs from my roommate, and, thinking it was just because I hadn't restarted in a while (from probably last Tuesday until yesterday when I tried this), I figured that was the problem.
Nope. Still made a coaster. So, instead, I made an image using the Image Writer in Nero and then burned that image which actually did work. However, even though I set the time between tracks to 0, there was still two seconds between each song.
Nero was working like a dream up until last week and then, suddenly, all this garbage started happening. I even uninstalled and reinstalled it and STILL, this crap was happening.
Has anyone else had this problem?
No, not so far. (knock on wood) I've had it for a few weeks and so far so good! (pirate)

honestly, the first time i used nero 7 ultra it worked perfectly fine on my pioneer 110... the first time. i updated the firmware, tried different plug-ins and then eventually reverted back to an old nero xpress OEM cd that i had, reinstalled and everything worked fine. thank god that was a friends copy of nero 7, i would've been pissed, i've seen so many great reviews about that program too. i thought it was some conflict on just my system, i looked all over for resolutions and it didn't seem like anyone was having the same issues, so i am happy that it wasn't just me, and i'm sorry that you are now going through similar issues
ps-this was about mid-december when i had these similar issues
pps-don't know how long ago you bought this, but i did find this
Editor's note: Although the retail version of Nero 7 Ultra Edition is currently available, the downloadable version won't be released until October 26, 2005. The downloadable version will include patches for known problems in the retail code, in addition to extra features. All incremental upgrades are free to Nero customers. (10/9/05)
You running the newest version, Superklye? I haven't had the first issue with it, and I'm running an older NEC burner myself (whatever the 4x SL is).
I don't know dude...upgrade and try again is the best advice I can give.

My version is 7.0.14...I'm not sure what the latest version of Nero is. And I have a hacked firmware installed on the 3500A, but that's been there almost the whole year I've had the drive and haven't had any problems until recently. I don't know exactly what it is that I did that made this problem happen, but wow, it is enfuriating. I guess I can see if there's an updated version of Nero available and see if that fixes it, but I have to get more blank CDs first.
I really like 7, but I guess if I have to, I'll go back to 6.5 Ultra.
And what I REALLY don't get is why it puts that damned 2 second gap in after EVERY song, even when I manually change them to 0. Yeah, it throws up that error about the first track having to have 2-3 seconds after it or whatever, and I always hit okay, and in the past, even hitting OK there wouldn't put the gap back in when it was burned, but it says it's only on the FIRST track.
Not all of them.
Damn Germans.
Damn Germans.
Yes, lets damn them together, mein Führer. (pirate)
I am also having so many problems with Nero 7, I eventually went back to Nero 6.5.

Sigh...you aren't making me feel any better. :-\
I upgraded to 7.0.5.4...but like I said: I have no CDRs. I'll hopefully be able to pick some up this weekend from Best Buy or something.
The only problem I had so far with Nero 7 was when it asked me to restart after I installed it. :-/ I don't like having to restart just to be able to burn a CD.

Honestly I never really understood what the big deal is about restarts. How often do we install a program that requires a reboot? Every day? I don't think so. And if your computer takes 2-3 minutes to boot back up is that really such a big deal?

It's just an annoyance. I hate having to start everything I have running back up, etc.
Is it really a big deal? Of course not. But I'd rather not have to restart for something as insignificant as installing a disc burning suite of software.
Funny thing is, so I've heard, is that there is a pirated key gen out there that works with the Ultra 7 demo making it full version, but I would't know. I've burned DVD+R's with it so far and no problems. I like that you can change the background image and the color. Pretty cool. I've never used Nero before 7, so it's new to me. Anyways... (pirate)
i've been having problems with it as well....seriously considering going back to 6.5

It just sucks because there was so much promise/potential. It started off working so amazingly well and then it, like, up and decided that it was going to suck after conning me into thinking it was the best thing since the Athlon 64 first came out.
Yeah, that's too bad. I can't figure out how to find out what version I have. Anyone?

It says on the splash screen when you open it up, otherwise Help>About should give it, too.

Add me to the list for having problems. I didn't get any coasters however when burning music cds, the beginning of over half of the tracks started skipping. I tried burning on both of my drives, same skipping at the same point in the songs.
I unistalled nero7, using 6.5 and it works perfectly now.

Yes! That happened to me, too! I thought maybe it was just the car CD player or something, but now that I know someone else had this problem, obviously, it's Nero.
When I get some CDRs, I'll see if the 7.0.5.4 upgrade fixed anything and if not, I've got no problem going back to 6.5.

I keep reading about nero 7 just plain being buggy in the cdrfreaks forums. I wouldn't know though, I am using nero 6.6 that came with my new DVD burner.
Nero is becoming another Easy CD Creator as well. Easy CD Creator 4 was perfect not bloated and burned stuff very well. Afterwards 5 added useless features and so did 6. Nero 7 looks like Easy CD Creator 5 to me.

The reason I didn't like ezcd was because it didn't support any image formats except its own (it didn't even support the industry standard ISO format FFS) at version 4, and it didn't have any advanced features - just glorified audio and data burning tools. I don't know if 5 or 6 improved upon that as I didn't try those versions since 4 left the "lets be proprietary because we can" impression on me.
Nero's strong point has always been that it is an extremely powerful burning tool - it supports pretty much every burning feature that exists, and it supports just about every burner out there.

Nero 7 should win the most bloated p.o.s award of the year!
It's terrible..... I prefer the simple grace of the 6 series myself.
I got rid of this tripe ASAP.

Yeah, too true... but the one thing that bothers me is this Nero Scout BS.
I deselected everything except the core Nero and it put that scout crap on.
