(nana2) A card like that would waste ATI. Say hello to much faster frame rates in COD2.

And probably awfully expensive. If it scores 13000 3d marks it would be insane. I already have £400 saved up I hope thats enough. :D

Yeah, I have to watch myself... I could easily blow $600 for this mobo and video card upgrade. I'll be getting a good chunk back from my current card (Ebay!) but still, thats a lot of money.

If the 7900GTX turns out to be significantly faster than the GT (15-20% or more in most cases) and is $100 more, I might go for that. Heh, why not?

The more I think about it, the more I want to spend. If the card costs $500 and the mobo costs $130 (looking at a DFI Lanparty), and I can get at least $250 for my GT on ebay (easy) that means I'll be putting $360 out of my pocket into this card, and that is almost exactly what I got back for my tax return. Basically, I'll be getting it for free... :D

See this is how I justify spending thousands of dollars on this crap :angel:

Word is that they are going to introduce the cards at a lower price point then the 1900s. I believe this is the year nvidia is going in for the kill. Honestly if they are smart this would be the eyar that they dig into their pockets and try to capture a much larger segment of the gpu market. Especially with vista coming out. "High end" GPU's will become much more mainstream.

That's about what I was thinking. nV releases cards that perform onpar/slightly better, generate less heat, quieter, and at a lower pricepoint?? What gets me is the gtx512... Was it nV's intention to make ATI aim at costlier cards so that they could undercut their prices with the 7900's?? I mean we don't know about prices yet but the rumor is a lower price point. It's all based on rumor but it seems likely.

That would be nice if the 7900gtx was <$500. it would make me want it again.

Minimal SRP of $600

BFG 7900 GTX 512 to launch on the 9th of March

Minimal SRP of $600

By Fuad Abazovic: Tuesday 21 February 2006, 11:31
WE learned that upcoming G71, Geforce 7900 GTX comes with an additional 512 in its name. A friend told us that you will be able to place your orders quite soon.

Nvidia is planning its editor day by the end of this month and it is all ready for its early March introduction. It promised the systems to its partners and some samples will be delivered as soon as next week.

We know that 7900 GTX 512 is set to have a MSRP of $599 we don’t know why Nvidia priced this product cheaper, it makes us happy for the consumers but it also makes us wonder about the performance. The last flagship card was MSRP at $649. 99 resulting with at least 699.99 retail price at most of the etailers.

The minimum suggested retail price for Nvidia's upcoming 7600 card is $249.99 and this card is supposed to take over from 6800GS and to continue the tradition. ATI will fight this one with its X1800GTO priced at the same price point.

There are no limitations on the number of orders that you will be able to place so this might mean that Nvidia got the yields right. The only question that we need to answer is, are the cards clocked to 650 MHz only and have 24 pipes? As far as we know that is the truth but we will still keep looking. µ

Hi , i have really been out of touch with the forums lately mainly due to work load but i was just going through anandtech and saw this
on the side :

http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=907

Quote:

"NVIDIA roadmaps have confirmed to us that the 90nm 7900GT will feature 24 pipelines with a 450MHz core clock. Like the GeForce 7800GTX series, the 7900GT comes with this warning:

Note: For two GeForce 7900 GT-based graphics cards running in NVIDIA SLI configurations, a minimum 450W system power supply (with 12V rating of 26A) is recommended."

Has anyone seen this yet and have they made such confirmations for thr 7900GTX too ?

If this post has already been made , just ignore/delete this.

EDIT : Oops just saw the other thread ....

lmao, that was so long ago I forgot what I have to get screenshots of. I have some screenshots on my computer that work good. But keep in mind, I only played EQ 2 for one month. It sucks as a game, but has beautiful graphics. I don't even have the settings high and you can still tell the power of the engine. I just wish EQ 2 was made by Sigil or at least have better artists to utilize the power of the engine.

Yeah the artist work is pretty horrible ;)

I was looking around at the performance results people were getting and Im still not convinced the engine is that good. It may have a lot of nice effects but from what Ive read the performance is horrible. I saw a performance review where people were getting 30fps average on a 7800 GTX at 1600x1200 with no AA or AF. No doubt they use fancy effects but I think a powerful engine can make something look great and run great too.

Anyways, lets not get off topic here.

I want a GTX :D

ATI cards run the EQ 2 engine seemlessly. I'm almost willing to bet a 9800 pro gets better frames per second than a 7800 GTX. If not better, its pretty close.

Anyway, I'm buying the GTX if its much faster than the 7800 GTX512. A good 20%

Strange, AMD Zone (http://www.amdzone.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=238&page=1) seems to imply that the 7900GTX will have 32 pipelines although the 7900GT is already "confirmed" to be a 24 pipe card.

Yeah, Im not going to call an engine great (or even good) if a 3 year old ATI card can beat a top of the line nVidia card. Thats just not right.

And I agree on the GTX. I dont think I'll be able to go for a $600 card since I need a motherboard as well, but if I could get GTX 512 performance (or better) for $500 Id probably do it.

Well, the 7800GTX has 24 and the 7800GT has 20... so the 7900 GT and GTX dont really need to have the same number either.

couldn't be like that?

gt -------> 24 pipe 450mhz
gtx ------> 24 pipe 650mhz
gtx 512 --> 32 pipe 650mhz

could be, no?

Yes but 7800GTX had almost the same core clock with 7800GT and one more quad.
The GTX model seems to always be close to the GT model in terms of performance and a 32 pipe 650MHz core card would be pretty damn faster than a 24 pipe 450MHz core card.

except it's a 24 pipeline card, at 655mhz.. WHat will the twice FP performance do is unclear though, and the other thing that is still in the mud is the tranny count.
