I heard it still won't do HDR+AA.

And...its not a new generation it is just a modified 7800 part

HDR is crap in EVERY game anyway

Until they get it to look good ill keep that off

Crap ? It looks gorgeous in SC CT and HL2 LC imho. I can't do without HDR anymore.

HDR in DOD:Source (like HL2 LC) is great! just kills like half the framerate on my 6800GT

72 pixel shaders don't look amazing to you !?
I doubt it'd be like that though, 7900 is just an update so pipeline configuration won't get a major change or even no change at all.

As expected. G71 is nothing more than a G70 with some more pipes and some very minor optimizations. Thus another uninteresting core is born, I'm definitively looking forward to G80.

Yeah I agree. Granted I have only seen HDR in half life 2, it is the total opposite of being realistic. Often times you see orange dirt and a solid white colored sky, and in many cases it makes it harder to see the enemy. It's only purpose is if maybe you like to handicap yourself.

Yeah I was looking more at how it has the same number of pipes as the GTX, not much higher core clock than the GTX 512 and has a lower memory clock than the GTX 512. I hope it can really waste the x1900xtx, but I dont know if this will be enough to do it in most games.

There hasnt been a follow up post anyway, so we dont even know where the hell this info came from.

0.9u TSMC Fabrication Process (Low-K?)
- 700Mhz Core
- 1650Mhz Memory GDDR-3 (Samsung 1.0ns)
- 8 Geometry Processors
- Pixel & Vertex Shader Model – 3.0
- 32 Pixel Pipelines/ Shader Processors
- HDR Blending with FP16, Int16 & Int10 Formats
- 32 TMUs (Bi/tri/Aniso ‘Full Speed’) SIMD
- 16 ROPs (two Z Operations) MSAA+HDR, Multiple Render Targets
- 2x/4x/8x/16x AF Modes
- Pure Video

That looks a bit more realistic.

I cant wait! March 9th :D

I did have a bad thought though... what if they just release the 7900s as top end cards, above the 7800s. IE, 7900GT=$550, 7900GTX=$650. Thatd match ATI's pricing. I really hope they just replace the 7800GTX with the 7900GT though. If they put the GT at $400 thatd be freaking awesome.

I´m still not certain about the specs, the optimistic ones and that have been around for the longest time are the 650-700mhz 32pipes specs for the GTX, and the GT with 24pipes.

And the more pessimistic GTX rumored specs are still 24pipes and 650-700mhz. 100-150mhz more than a stock 7800GTX512 are enough to take the performance crown from the 1900XTX in most games, but surely not as impressive as the 32pipe rumored specs and in very shader heavy games, the 1900 should still be infront.

So which of the two will it most likely be or will it be something totally different?

This round is a bit different, nV had the opportunity to see what she(?) had to counter so its no longer ATi tweaking/playing with clocks to beat nV.(7800GTX256MB/X1800)

But considering the tape-out time and when nV finalized G71's design may actually leave no time for nVIDIA to optimize G71 anyfurther with regards to X1900 performance or so it seems but still...

I think that perhaps its cheaper to produce a 90nm chip than a 110nm one, cause you can put more chips per wafer. Yields is another story. Also, Samsung is mass producing those fast ram chips now, so, they should be cheaper now. I would like to see nvidia replacing 7800GT & GTX with these 7900 cards, & with a close price tag.

Yeah and good availability mean good prices. None of this $1000 nonsense we saw with the 512mb 7800 gtx.

The first specs are similar to what ATI is offering on the x1900xtx. 3 ALU's per pipe.

72 shader processors is impressive, but I would still rather see the 32 pipeline design.

And I'm pretty sure its confirmed that the 7900GTX will NOT support FP16 HDR + AA on 90nm design. You'll need to wait until G80 for that ;)

Personally, HDR is such a framerate killer, its almost better to just leave it off in most games anyways, they really need to improve the HDR performance on next gen cards.

no 72 ps there

its basically a die shrink using the 90nm tech

but 650M on core is quite a conservative setting as some of my sources indicating that running the core @ 800Mhz isnt that difficult

We have got to know the specs for the upcoming 90nm G71 series already. There will be two models as we have revealed before; the GeForce 7900 GTX and GeForce 7900 GT. However, the performance differences between the two models seem to be pretty huge and we can expect quite a huge price difference too. We have yet to confirm on the number of pipelines on the 7900 GTX and GT but current sources point towards 32 and 24 pipelines respectively.

GeForce 7900 GTX will be clocked at 650MHz core / 1.6GHz memory and has 512MB GDDR3 1.1ns memories onboard while GeForce 7900 GT will be clocked at 450MHz core / 1.32GHz memory with 256MB GDDR3 1.4ns memories. We have also heard that GeForce 7900 GTX will win Radeon X1900 XTX in most benchmarks so we shall eagerly wait for the launch on March 9th at CeBIT.

For long term investment lack of HDR+AA compared to X1900 , is a problem even if its faster, personally ill wait for G80 , plain 7800GTX @ 500 is plenty fast ;) for now.
