Hey guys, this is my first post here at nv news, iv been at EOCF for a while, but i had alot of questions about the 7900, and i found that i come here alot for answers so i decided to join.
Anyway, i know 3/9 is sposed to be the launch of the 7900 at cebit, but does this mean that i will be able to order on 3/9 or will it be a while longer? if so, any ideas? thx
7900GTX build :D
Evga/BFG/XFX GeForce 7900GTX 512MB :D :D
AMD Opteron 170 Dual Core @ 2.8GHz (i hope)

ENERMAX Liberty 620W PSU
all the other crap from my old system lol
This my PCI-Express upgrade, and i decided to go big lol
My guess is available on launch day. nVidia set a new standard, and has been following it closely.

A minnor objection about 7800GTX 512MB which was only available on launch day and anavailable for the next 3 months.I expect high availability for their 7900 line though.:)

hey jakup, since u work at evga, in your "waste managment position", what do you think the chances are of them releasing a super clocked 7900GTX within 90 days after launch? the step up program sounds nice :D
The Inquirer (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=29795) says 7900GTX probably has 24 pipelines clocked at 650/1600 and will be slower than X1900XTX.The price will be very competitive at 499$.
Take it with a grain of salt since this is the inquirer although they seem to get it right close to launch.

Loses performance crown? NV simply won't let it happen IMHO.

$499 for a 24p 650MHz card, doesn't sound so bad. The GT should be around $100 less, as usually. At 650MHz with 24 pipes, it should be around 20% faster than the GTX512 for shader ops, & around 60% faster if it has 32 pipes. They will win some benches, & lose others.

Well it might not be up to nvidias hand to regain the performance crown.:p :D
A 24 pipeline card at 650/1600 should be competitive with the X1900XTX and I don't think it would be worth to build a 32 pipeline G70 with G80 coming in the summer timeframe.

Nvidia to showcase 7900 GTX SLI at CeBIT
The guys who are supposed to manufacture those cards only mentioned the showcase of the G71 based cards but so far no one told us that it will be able to ship those cards in retail at that time. There is a chance that Nvidia will show its cards at CeBIT, but not launch them, but it is keeping its corporate plans close to its corporate chest.
Sounds like no availability at launch.

Geforce 7800 GTX, GT reaches end of life
It has Geforce 7900 GTX as the flagship card and it also has less expensive 7900 GT card and there is no space for the mutual coexistence with the 7800 GTX and GT.
And yes, they want to replace 7800 cards with this 7900 series.

Compeditive in not too shader heavy games, yes, but other than that I do smell a disappointment. Not that I´m in the market for G71 or R580 anyway, with the G80/next gen cards around the corner, but I have to admit, I would recommend the R580 over the G71 if it has unchanged 24 pipelines. I hate ATI (the company) with a passion, but their product would be better and more futureproof in that case.
At least I was right that they want to replace the 7800 110nm cards with the 7900.
P.S. Who knows, maybe the 7900s will be good overclockers. Nvidia always tends to clock their cards rather conservative than aggressive.

Hmmm... Both of these (http://www.amdzone.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=238&page=1) previews (http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=3240) state the 7900GTX will be 32 pipes, with the GT being 24 (according to one of them). Their speed information varies, though.
Of course, it's all speculation at this point, but that's the fun part, right? :D

i think I'll believe these 2 sources as it makes me feel better.

For everyone who keeps saying G80 is around the corner, are you sure about that? I just don't see why DirectX 10 cards would come out months before DirectX 10. I don't think we'll see G80 or R600 till late this year, damn near holiday time.

My "around the corner" expectation is and always was Q3-Q4. lol I can hold out that long, I had a ti4200 till January last year. ;)

Whatever happened to that notion of G71 only having to be 430MHz core to top the 7800 GTX 512? I mean they had to have a working g71 to be able to say that right? Also if it is only a 24 pipe card, just 90nm, i really doubt that 430MHz would = the 512. It HAS TO BE 32 pipes in order for that statement to be true. Unless of course, they lowered the pipes midway through.

Well radeon 9700pro was launched many months before DX9 came out so...

I remember that statement but unless it came from Nvidia or one close to the G71, it was probably just a speculation what clocks would be necessarly for a 32pipe card to beat the GTX512.
