View Full Version : Quadro FX 256MB??
Hi,
Anyone knows if there will be a 256MB version of the Quadro FX board?

Volt ... When looking at the Quadro FX pdf file from NVIDIA's homepage it states:
memory:
High-speed 128MB DDR2 memory
I was hoping for at least one board with 256MB...

It sounds like the FX1000 and FX2000 both have 128MB DDR-II according to the bjorn3d preview. nVidia will probably release a card with 256MB shortly...

Don't think so uttar. Not for a good while at least. I think the whole reason as to not sell a 256 card is one, price. two, Nvidia wants to spread out the ram effectively. So they can sell two cards instead of just one. Three, price again. I just don't see it happening in the US anytime soon. MAYBE in europe. But word has it that the price at the Club place is bogus and they are just hyping the card up so people will preorder, then get told, "oops. guess what. Nvidia goofed. Its only 128." That would suck but its possible.
As far as I can tell currently, the europeans have a better chance at getting a 256 gffx than the US. Somehow though, I don't see one being sold until Late Summer. Hope I'm proven wrong.

Nvidia will definitely release a 256 version, if not this gen then the next. My question is: what are the clock speeds on these things? I am reading the 2000 is 30% faster than the 1000, if so is it because its 'overclocked'? I also read that the 2000 comes with the huge Nvidia cooling system, which makes me think its *very* likely that the geforceFX will be overclockable to at least QuadroFX2000 shipped speeds, :)
256 MB's on consumer graphics card maybe pricey, but people who will buy Quadro FX don't play games ;)

oops, I previously stated that the Quadro 2000 is 30% faster than the 1000, but re-reading my source reveals that actually the FX2000’s RAM is 30% faster than the FX1000’s. (bjorn3d)
So the clockspeeds are the same? Still, my question stands:
IF the Quadro1000 can do without the fancy Nvidia cooling system then presumably WITH the cooling system the gpu can be clocked higher. Can anyone confirm this? I guess time will tell
I spoke with someone, and their answer was yes...the ultra version can be clocked higher than 500/500

w0w thats really cool. One could assume that since the geforceFX uses the same slick cooling system we will be able to overclock those puppies too..:D

I think the clocks for the QFX1000 are 300\300 and for the QFX2000 they are 400\400. For stability reasons apparently.

Heh...you mean "underclocked" to QuadroFX2000 speeds. ;)
As stated above, the FX2000 is 400/400 "for stability" reasons according to someone who attended the Quadro Launch. And for the record the FX2000 at 400/400 does have a cooling system that requires 2 slots, but it is not the same as the FXFlow system on the GeForce. (It doesn't appear to have air intake our output directly from the case.) The FX1000 at 300/300 will be a single slot solution.
Makes you wonder about the "stability" of the 500/500 GeForceFX. In truth, what this all means is that the GeForce FX will be a VERY LOW VOLUME product, because they'll have to bin chips and use PCBs that run reliably at 500/500...something they are not even attempting for the workstation market. The high-end gamer card (GeForceFX) looks like it's intended to be lower volume than the Quadro FX 2000!
So don't expect prices on the GeForceFX to drop much. They'll keep the price high enough to meet a very low volume sales target.
