Does anybody know how I can enable 24bit colour instead of just having 16 or 32 bit? It's probably something in the reg thing. Using Dets 42.xx.

not sure, i think it's dependent on what video card is installed. Some only support 24bit, others 32bit. But wouldnt you rahter have 32bit anyway?

I happen to be running a TFT so no point just hogging my gpu with extra colour when it isn't really needed. This TFT only shows up to 24bit.
I remeber doing such a tweak on some ATi drivers in the registry some years back, wondering if there's such a thing for the Dets 42.xx or 30.xx ??

i remember back to the days of PCI video cards, and the max they supported was 24 bit color. My memory is a bit fuzzy tho.

24bit color is STILL the best way to look at porn! ;)

24-bit and 32-bit are all but the same thing (unless you're running 1998-era Sony software that only works in 24-bit but crashes instantly in 32-bit).

In fact... 32-bit in Windows = 24-bit in Linux.

yeah, if u press a screenshot on a game playing on 32 bit, it will automatically be saved as a 24 bit bitmap

OK thX guys so 32bit colour is still the best way to see all the colours on my TFT which can only do 16.2 million?

Just wondering why some ATi drivers have listed: 16, 24 and 32 bit - or is that just ATi?

As far as I know 32Bit is just 24Bit with 8Bits of Alpha. You can split it up into:

R=Red, G=Green, B=Blue, A=Alpha

15-bit 5550 (R,G,B,A)
16-bit 5650, 5551, or 4444
24-bit 8880
32-bit 8888

where each numeral represent 8 bits of information for each channel or 256 colours per channel.
