Does that work with regular SLI motherboards (since it looks like they're daughtercards) or does it require a special one?

I believe that you'd need a 4 slot PCIx motherboard as are shown in some of the photos here:
http://images.google.com/images?q=quad+sli&hl=en&btnG=Search+Images

That image from bit-tech is misleading because the video cards are just mocked-up over a regular SLI mobo (if you look closely you can see that there is no connection from the cards to the motherboard).

Didnt I read recently that the Quad SLI cards are in fact 2 sets of sandwitched cards plugged into 2 PCI-E slots (ie, 1 sandwitch per slot)? Im pretty sure thats what that picture shows as well.

You might be right, I have no "official" knowledge of this. I'm just making SWAGs. :)

Now this sounds different than the 2-cores-on-one-card described in the X-Bit Labs article (http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/display/20060223090220.html). I got this mental picture of a normal PCB with 2 GPUs. For those who demand ultimate performance, dual-chip graphics cards will be promoted.
For those who demand the ultimate performance, Nvidia’s add-in-board partners will offer a graphics card with two GeForce 7900-series GPUs. Two of such cards will allow quad-SLI multi-GPU mode providing unprecedented performance.

I would be interested in one dual gpu card especially if it's only 800 dollars.

Quad SLI makes sense as soon as it's available with G80. But now you spend a lot of money but you don't get SM4.0 or thinks like that. By years end you still have fast cards but not the state of the art technology.
I like the idea, but not with G71 chips.

SM 4.0...please dont start making that out to be a big feature

Windows Vista will be a flop, DX10 is only for vista and newer os's i think

All they need is a fixed AF algorithm(+ HQAF) and HDR+MSAA

I know that wont be in G71, im just stating, Sm4 is pointless at this time, and even a year in the future

you need the dual 16x boards from what ive heard

Yeah thats how it work , i'm pretty sure too . so i believe its possible for the regular SLI x16 mobos.

Yes, at this time. But a Quad SLI has enough power for more than 2 years... so it's still important to have SM4.0. Because it's so much money.

the only thing i dont like about quad is that it looks like it leaves no room for anything else. Where the hell would i put my TV tuner or my Sound Card? or extra USP ports?

I guess this would be more for extreme gamest and not for anything else.

Could the manufacturers please slow down. I haven't even gotten to the 7-series yet and now they are already at quads. Damn.

Would there be any difference, other than the cooling, between a dual, 2 GPU quad-SLI and the quad sandwich configuration?

I wonder when NVIDIA or ATi is going to go the AMD/Intel route and put 2 GPUs on a chip too? Quad SLI on a single card? 32X PCIe slot?

NVIDIA will launch its Quad SLI technology on the 22nd March, according to a report on TGDaily,

Sources indicate that the four-way graphics solution will be announced in conjunction with the GeForce 7900 GTX that is understood to be available from the 9th March if the company's previous track record of hard launches continues.

Dell and NVIDIA showcased the new quad GPU architecture at CES in January, but it seems that Dell's customers will not be the only people who're able to buy into this insane amount of graphics power.

Dell and some of the larger enthusiast-orientated system builders will announce that they're shipping Quad-SLI systems - available in limited quantities - on the 22nd. Along with the OEM strategy, NVIDIA plans to make the platform available to enthusiasts too.

Our own sources indicated that the dual GPU cards will be have an SRP somewhere close to the $799 mark, meaning that you'll need to spend $1600 to get the fastest graphics platform on the planet. We expect single GPU GeForce 7900 GTXs to cost around $499 on launch, providing that availability of the new products is healthy.

Will EVGA be offering these Quad-SLI Beauties? BFG-Tech is Hinting at it.
I am saving My Money for the whole Quad-SLI Setup! I already have the board, an Asus P5N32-SLI Deluxe.

Here is a list of the Desktop NForce4 x16-SLI Motherboards that the Nvidia Quad-SLI will work with:

do you guys think that 1 of these dual cards would work with a regular motherboard? I just got my DFI Lanparty UT SLI-DR Expert because of the oc'ing features, and it appears that one of these cards would be cheaper then two separate ones. Im thinking of getting a dual G80 basically, and just not use the other slot, then later on i could upgrade to a x16 mobo and use quad.

Good question and I want the answer as well, if I can get 2 G71s on the same card, that would get rid of my heat and space concerns of conventional SLI.

Uberpwnage : really good question

i should sell my 7800gtx and get 1 of those bad boys .. leave the other slot empty

b/c i was going to now add another 7800gtx after the price drops b/c of the 7900

Plus .. what game out there will even be able take full advantage QUAD

FEAR at 2048x1536 with soft shadows and 8x AA

Or any game from 2006 I imagine... things are getting rediculous on the graphics front. Im sure there are games that could take advantage of this kind of power.

Im sure that oblivion on 3007wfp's with max quality, 32xaa(quad only lol), 16xaf, and then lots of tsaa would put a quad 7900 at about........10fps lol
