View Full Version : 6800nu agp to 6800gs agp?
I'd don't see many reviewers throwing in the 6800 vanilla when doing comparisons these days. Anyone know whether this would be a good jump for the $225 investment?
I was getting the impression that it was much better on the high res. sigh.
Noop just overclock the card. My SLI 6800NU @ 430/700MHz was as fast as a stock SLI 6800GT cards dispite the memory bandwith diffrence.

I went from a 6800nu I had unlocked and overclocked to a 7800GS and noticed a nice difference in fps in all games. Remember that the 6800GS and 7800GS both have 256MB of RAM vs. the 128MB in the 6800nu.
I would try unlocking the pipes on the 6800nu, while the gs is faster a bit its not $225 bucks faster
no extra pipes, did get an extra vp. My samsumg has a native rez of 1280X1024, and it be nice to stay there even with AA and such.

Even if you unlock the pipes on a 6800nu, you're still looking at that 128MB RAM limit on the card. The newer games really benefit from the extra 128MB of RAM in the 6800GS, which is really a 6800GT in disguise.

I agree, I went from a NU @430/900/16/6 to a 7800GS, and the extra ram made a world of diff.
spend another $80 & get the 7880 gs. it will perform much better & you get the 7800 feature set too.
Can you give me an example? What changed for you in what apps? I don't mind the spending the cash, but if I don't see a difference, it be waste.

have you done any research at all? you are talking about spending over $200 on an incremental speed boost. going to the 7800 not only gives you a substantial speed boost but lets you utilise things like transparent aliasing. it also runs cooler than the 6800core.
i assume by apps you mean games. i noticed a difference between my 6800gt @ ultra(wich is now in my wifes comp) & the 7800gs. do not know if you will(though you should) because there are to many variables involved.

I don't see the 7800 agp as being equivalent to the 7800 pci/e. I've seen the 6800gs agp for $210, the 7800 for $309. You hit it right on the head, the question for me isn't the money as much as it is the relative value. If the 6800gs agp ISN'T a sizable jump in performance, than I'm willing to wait until the fall when I do the major upgrade of my whole comp.

To the above ? you have I can turn up the goodies now with the 7800GS.
And game are smoother.
