/me would like to know what people think of this deal. FMP, the only problem I see is no source, no support for non-Win32 and a general lack of "goodness".

Anybody care to comment?

Why would Microsofts aquisition of a publisher prevent TF2 from coming out? It's not like Rare, where Nintendo owned the rights to certain characters (like Conker), which would prevent them from showing up on an XBOX game.

In fact, with the influx of capital this purchase would generate, and the desire of microsoft to have a hit series like HL bear its trademark, the games are that much MORE likely to come out.

TF2 is never coming out anyway

but the point being made is that MS might make it an Xbox exclusive like they did with Halo.

Halo isn't an XBOX exclusive; it's coming out in a few months on the PC. Bungie has said Halo 2 will make a quicker transistion also. The problem was that they focused too much time on a Halo multiplayer addon that just turned into Halo 2 then putting any effort into the PC port. The finally handed the project over to Valve to finish.

the point being it was Xbox exclusive for almost a year, and it really can't be debated that if MS hadn't bought Bungie, Halo would have been out on PC last year, or at least sooner than it is coming.

I gave up on Halo. By the time it comes out on PC, it will be over a year behind any new game. Battlefield 1942 has given me the crewed vehicle fix for a while.

It's possible it may have NEVER come out on the PC. Halo was a concept for a Mac game. Thats right, Apple computers. The game was introduced during the Keynote at Macworld 1999. Without the influence of Microsoft and the additional funds, a PC port may have never even happened.

uh it was started for Mac then went almost directly to pc. So it was coming out for pc FIRST and onlypc (mac too). But not xbox. Then MS bought it and ****ed everything up. Now its basiclly xbox only I mean who is going to buy halo for their pc now? Thats right no one.

This is an extremely sad day. ANY title that is highly aticipated will be xbox exclusive for months AT LEAST. Take splinter cell for example. High profile game. It was release when like late November and here we are middle of Januaray and still no SC.

Now they have control of valve? Say goodbye to HL2 unless you want to buy a pile of **** um I mean a console and play a fps with a controler. Ugh. Excuse me I have to go vomit.

Either way, Halo had been from the begining a showpiece for the XBOX launch. Thats over with. They now have Rare, and Perfect Dark fits the bill for the next generation games (not to mention Halo 2).

Microsoft has a good thing with the Age of Empires series, but they don't have anything else worth a darn with their name on it in PC gaming.

I think you need to consider Microsofts buisness plan, and that is to be THE company in computer software. That means everything from OS's to Productivity to Games. That means having good developers and great games. And that's what Valve and Blizzard bring to the table. If you think for a minute that Billy boy wants to close up those goldmines, you seriously underestimate their buisness mentality. They will saturate both houses with the funds they need to get the job done.

The part I find interesting is that Valve was recently revealed as the company doing the PC port of Halo, and now this happens.

that exactly the point. so who's to say that TF2 or HL2 won't be the next showpiece for the Xbox. i don't think anyone is saying the games will never come to the PC, just that they will be delayed. i'm sure Halo2 will come out for PC....next year.

Precisely why Microsoft bought Rare. They want Perfect Dark and well done, original RPG's.

Halo 2 shouldn't be nearly as delayed as Halo 1 for the PC has proven to be. Bungie finally made the call a few months ago to give the project to Valve. Bungie started work on the Halo expansion set, Halo 1 Port and Halo 2, and they figured out they had way too much on the table at one time. Valve was chosen to do the port. The delay really can't be blamed solely on Microsoft.

Now, with Blizzard making Starcraft : Ghosts, you can bet Microsoft is salavating all over the oppurunity to make that an XBOX exclusive. And thats fine, it was designed from the ground up to be a console game.

HL2 is a PC franchise with a huge fanbase and alot of anticipation behind it. Even Microsoft isn't stupid enough to miss that putting out HL2 with their name on the intro screen would be huge.
